That's it - my cats officially are pissed at me.
Both are on oral (liquid) antibiotics, and both fought me like hell tonight.

I'm taking this as a sign that they're getting better.

Is there any way to make this easier?

15. One of my cats is fussy about her water.
Even after her surgery, she would only drink ~fresh~ water. If it sat in the cup longer than 10 minutes, it's no longer fresh.

Yes, they're spoiled.

3. Lucy was on one o' those
when she sliced her paw open awhile back.

Vet told me to wrap a towel around her, including her legs, and hold her that way, then stick the dropper in the side of her mouth. After the first couple times, it wasn't so bad.

I think she actually liked the taste of the stuff. (It was pink and smelled like bubble gum.)

Come to think of it, that might work with Binky. But right now, I'll have to dig her out of the bedroom closet. She's got two more meds to take.

Oreo, on the other hand, has forgiven me already, and is sitting on my arms as I try to post. :)

I had to give one of mine a pink, bubble-gum smelling antibiotic once & towards the end, she would meet me at the fridge when it was time to get dosed up.

Pills, OTOH, get spit out & you don't find them until much later.

...we just went through that ourselves, with the liquid antibiotics with one of ours. In the future, I'd much rather have a pill. They may not like the pill process, but it's a lot quicker, and less stressful in the long run - at least for my wife and I.

9. Really? I found the pill to be worse.
Mostly because one of my cats refused to swallow it. And I got the bite marks showing how hard I tried. At least with the dropper, there's a bit of room between teeth and fingers.

12. I've found pills to be easy....
...one of you wraps a towel around them as you pick the furkid up, then, the other puts the pill in it's mouth. Hold the nozzle shut, and blow on the nose. They'll instantly swallow. Then let them down, and tell them what a good kitty they are, and give 'em a treat. It's always worked like a charm for us. We did the liquid thing with one of our cats recently, and it was like a James Bond mission on trying to figure out how we were going to do it, how to keep the other cats out of it, and how to repeat doing it.

(or ferrets)see me put the meds in the dropper. With Ayja I snuck up on him while he was a sleep, scruffed him, stuck the dropper in his mouth and squirted the meds down his throat as fast as I could, before he completely woke up. Now you know why he has refused to sleep in the bed since his oral surgery. He still hides to sleep and his meds were done in March. but I did get them in him with out scars. I still try to give him his shot while he is a sleep, it is easier on him then because he is relaxed. Now poor Mojo just knows, even if he is in a dead sleep. He tries to shake it all out of his mouth onto me, the room and anything else in the way. Eventually he swallows because he knows he will get chicken to wash the taste out. Though I must say, both kitties must be feeling lots better if they are fighting you. When Ayja was taking his meds nicely I knew that was bad. Give both a good chin rub from Aunt Ferretessa.
Also won't be around for the next couple weeks hardly at all, we start ripping the kitchen out tomorrow. If you hear about some woman that lost it and killed her husband in MD, it might be me and would be justifiable homicide.O8)

Justifiable? Hon, it was justifiable after the clogged drain incident!
Some of us are wondering why he's still alive! (Would that be called Tericide?)

Thanks again for the help. I'm gonna have a heart-to-heart with the vet this morning. It's either drops OR fluids, but not both. She's (Binky) still getting injections twice a week at the vets; but the fluid stuff she won't sit still for anymore.

And seriously, if she's fighting that strong, she's much, much better. :)

25. Well I figure on that one
I would make him wish for it. And I think he really was for a bit since the basement was dry and had been for a while before I stopped making him pay for it. Oh and his computer is waiting for me to fix it. I'll start as soon as he gets the basement completely cleaned out so it doesn't flood like that again.

Let me know what the vet says. I've never had to give a cat fluids(knock on wood). If they IV it like a dog I can't imagine any of mine staying still long enough.

27. Hey Ferrettessa - you'll never believe it....
I was looking at the kitten pics from the rescue shelter. One of them caught my attention - his name is CC!

Turns out, he was a rescue brought in by the vet assistant. She caught him in the chicken coop, curled up and asleep with a freshly-killed chicken, and a feather pasted on his face like a moustache. She said he's very, very friendly, and thinks he'd fit in well with my girls!!

I had to tell her that the attraction was all in the name. We agree, that this must be a match made in heaven!! Thank Gizzy and Roo for that!

I'm gonna call later and see what I can find out.

29. Put me in there with the
match made in heaven. I wondered when you were going to start answering the cats calling out to you. Though one can never replace another you have plenty of room in your heart for a cat that needs love. And I know Roo is up there wondering what took you so long to listen. Though I saw the thread about Bertha's kittens and think you need to save room for one of them. I am kind of between your brother's house and hers and well would never forgive you if you came out and didn't find your way this way. Though I also told Terry he is good at transporting kittens and he does go to WI.
I'm guessing the rescue isn't online,or you would of included a link. Claudia the ferret rescue www.oxfordrescue.org lady that works at my vet called about Mojo's meds and reminded me again she has some young ferrets. With a bunch of older ferrets I am just not sure I can take more on since my vet bill is so big now and most likely will be higher. So I ask her about fostering some ferrets for her. She liked that idea so might go that route. It would be older ones that are hard to adopt but I could do that.

36. I just called and left a message.
And I did mention that I would at least consider adopting both of them. Although, I have a suspicion that Oreo will keep up just fine. She needs a playmate, and misses her brother very much.

I've already "spoken" to the cats about the possibility. Oreo is indifferent, but Binky meowed her approval at the idea. :)

I'm just a tad worried about how the church people will react. I'm gonna have to be very, very careful in keeping things cleaned up after them (especially the off-white carpet... who in the HELL thought of that idea??).

I'll let you know how things progress. In fact, if I get to meet CC, I'll give you a call and let you know what I'm thinking and feeling.

Thanks, ferrettessa - you are such a super friend!!

meet him, because then he will be going home with you. The cats will let you know whether you adopt both. And being from a rescue I bet they can give you lots of ideas on intros and keeping things clean. Who ever put white carpet in should be shot or better yet skinned alive with a dull butter knife. Will give you a hint on white carpet from a crazy person that had kids and pets with white carpet and furniture. Keep resolve carpet cleaner around. It was not me though. I know better, I am going with wood or tiles floors as I get rooms done.
And I will be waiting for your call when you meet, and looking forward to it. My favorite saying is "You get what you give." You my dear Rev. are very easy to be a friend to and probably have more friends ready and willing to help any way they can than you realize.

Also did not start ripping the kitchen out today, tomorrow. Forgot Ter had a doctor's appointment this morning. What tiny lumps the doc could feel are gone. :bounce::bounce: He wants to know what Ter has been doing. I'm the only one allowed to kill him and about time the cancer figured that out.

My cats have firmly let me know that we have hit cat max or I would be tempted into a kitten. Actually the cats have tried to firmly let me know we have hit animals max no matter the species. It is good to not rush into things though I will have to say if the kitties have chosen you and are calling out to you you won't be able to say no.

Being called to dinner...the up side of Ter home, cooked dinners instead of frozen.

24. when I have to give any of mine meds
and I am by myself I take a towel and wrap up the cat like a burrito with only the head stickout out. Then I put the cat face up on my lat and hold the head steady with one arm, and with the other I administer the meds. They still get pissed at me and say God knows what if I could understand "cat" but I get all the meds in the cat that way, and not on the floor, furniture or my clothes. Its amazing to me how such tiny creatures can be so strong when it comes to getting meds!

We're going to try doing fluids twice a week, and see how she does. But for now, I'll keep doing the drops as best I can. When Binky went in for her shots, she fought the vet rather ferociously - it took both of us to get it done.

Actually, I'm seeing that as a good sign... she is much stronger!

33. Yes, I would take that as
a good sign. My cat is very old, so there's always a fine balance, a tightrope that I have to walk if you will. She's holding her own though, and I'd do anything to make her comfortable, to keep her quality of life up to par. Tippy has gotten me through some really tough times, and I'm ever so grateful to her.

34. Both Oreo and Binky are 16.
Oreo acts like she's about 8. Binky's been showing her age lately. I think the vet's concerned that her kidney values will go sky-high again, and put her back to the pathetic dehydrated thing she was almost a month ago. But I think that was due to her bad teeth and infection.

Binky's always been a good drinker. The vet told me she had never before seen a cat who was on an IV (right after surgery) who wanted to drink... but Binky insisted. Oh, and it had to be ~fresh~ water, too! :)

I think you're right about the quality of life question. If the fluids are making her miserable, even if they're helping, what's the point? Funny thing is, we went through something like this with my mom, too. She chose to not be miserable and stopped her injections. It could be the most loving thing I can do for Binky.

37. Yes, that is a
tough decision, and I know that I will have to make it at some point in time too. I've already decided that I will not go to extreme measures, I just know that Tippy would not want that. Only a pet owner can appreciate that comment. Right now I just do what ever it takes to make her comfortable and healthy. Those tough decisions will come, but hopefully at a later date.

Yes, the Mom thing . . . as I've told you before, I lost my Mom some time ago, and quite suddenly too. It's hard, although we were not close, not close like she was to my sister, but still hard not having a mom. Ahhhhhhhh . . . too philosophical here for this time of the afternoon.
