I'm sorry about the dissonance...it's a tough kind of situation, no matter how small or great the ideological gulf, when someone you care for is on (or at least partly so) the other side of an issue like that. Politics is a human construct, an artificial dimension, and it shouldn't ever trump more real feelings and the like but it can, sometimes. All I can suggest is tell her to stop...tell her that it really does create undue tension where none is appropriate or constructive.
