Do Jay and Silent Bob = Abbot and Costello?
I'm trying to figure out Jay and Silent Bob. I'm not sure I get them, but they kind of remind me of Abbot and Costello. I should state for the record that I haven't seen all that much of the former, and I've forgotten much of the latter, but there's three key commonalities.

1. They keep showing up in a lot of damn movies.

2. They're really not all that funny.

3. Yet they have an odd, endearing quality about them. They kind of make you smile, despite their not being all that funny.

I should add that I made the connection while watching a commercial for the Clerks II movie and cracked up at the bit where they're dancing erotically to the techno song from Silence of the Lambs. That bit was genuinely funny.

1. They just remind me of guys I went to high school with.
One always mouths while his partner keeps silent and neither are all that quiet about being dealers.

I must admit-A and M had the best pot in the school so I supported their business venture for three years of high school and a few years after.

2. Me too.
Not drug dealers per se.

Just goofy guys I went to school with.

I think that's why they're endearing.

It's a walk down memory lane. One of them from my school (the nonmouthy one, surprisingly) is now in prison. (I should write to him sometime. He really was a nice guy.) The mouthy one is divorced for the third time, running an Arby's and is playing child support out the wazoo. (I need to call him sometime-nice guy for the most part who would give you the shirt off his back).

3. When Jay Re-enacts The Buffalo Bill Dance from "Silence of the Lambs"
I laughed out loud.
