1. It's so hard...that's about as long as I've been able to make it too... |
|
I KNOW I have to quit, it's a nasty, expensive, smelly, evil, death-dealing habit... but I have such a hard time.

2. For most people, it takes several tries. |

I just quit three weeks ago, and this time feels different. Not saying I don't have cravings; I do, but this time is much easier than the other times I've quit. i think my mind AND my body came to an agreement that it was time to quit. So don't give up on the idea of quitting. And don't beat yourself up for not sticking with it this time. You may be like me, and one day just KNOW it's time. I am using the Commit lozenges; I didn't do it cold turkey. Anyway, be nice to yourself, okay? It's not a failure; just one more try closer to finally quitting!

I took Zyban for 30 days. It was honestly one of the easiest things ever - the pill kills most cravings, plus makes the cigarettes taste like shit.
It has side effects. Some go away, some don't, but at least I don't smoke anymore! :)

You can do it :)
Oh, don't be afraid of the patch either. I used it and it totally took away my need to smoke

Since I can't any more (Fridays are the MOST difficult -- I want to kick back with a Black Velvet and Coke, and a couple of smokes, but alas, neither is an option now!)
Really, though, I do wish you the best, and think that one day, you will get to the point where your body and your mind say, "Enough!". Till then, just don't beat yourself up, okay?

First of all you have to decide if you want to smoke or not. If you decide not, then you need to get pissed at the company for making you an addict. Then feel like your punishing the companies when you quit.
For the basic day to day. Taper down to one a day.. do this for a month at this point you can decide to taper more or not then each day don't light up tell yourself you can have one the next day if you really need it. then next day do the same.... it gets easier after a while, but it helps to replace it with a ritual of some kind (like deep breathing) good luck. I quit at 30 and am 44 now.

14. Start buying really expensive cigarettes. |
|
You won't smoke them as often because they cost so much. Try American Spirits they are natural. Also think of smoking as a ritual and not a fix. Only allow yourself a smoke at certain times(morning with coffee or after dinner, etc.) Also, win you quit be really self righteous about your quiting and shove it in every smoker's face. That way you won't want to smoke just because you've been sticking it to everybody else.;-) They will be waiting for you start up again because they think you are one of them, your addiction reaffirms their addiction and allows the cycle of lung cancer and death to continue. But you must deny them their flesh. You can do it Mrs. Sniffa!

just had his third heart attack and quadrupal bipass surgery from his inaability to quit smoking. now he has congestive heart failure. He's 51.
I suggest you go to any ICU and find yourself a post heart attack smoker with tubes galore sticking out of them...i guarantee you will never smoke again.

he told me he raised two boys as best he could and his job here is done. While he wasnt the best dad in the world, he did his best under the circumstances (bad divorce). I've never once picked up a cigarette. I hate cigarettes, and only tolerate smokers (and never kiss them). Its nice to see that my generation does not smoke nearly as much as previous ones.

17. You really didn't fail... |
|
You just haven't found the right way to quit yet! It's different for everyone. After several unsuccessful attempts using the patch...I finally tried again with the patch and Wellbutrin. Hubby and I both did this and it worked! We'd both been smoking almost 30 years. Talk to your doctor...he or she really can help.
Try again when you're ready...but don't let others force you into it. It has to be your decision.
Good luck!
