"We only want winners in Christianity!...
My brother was telling me about this "Christian Motivational Speaker" that he's got a major axe to grind with.

He is known for such quotes as "Vicitms do not make for good Christians." and "Christ never lost or failed - we shouldn't either."

1. There are so many things wrong with that.
I don't know where to start.

2. Oh most definitely
My brother also had a big beef where he compared poor christians to Judas as they took, but never gave back to the church.

3. Whatsoever you do the least among you
You do to me.

How do these people handle the constant paradox?

4. Hard to say
Since I never heard of the guy until now, but apparently he's all the rage in the evangelical circles.

17. Well, that's not the first time...
...Xtianity has been interpreted that way, or are you forgetting the 1900 years of leaders claiming Divine Right? (Come to think of it, they never really stopped, did they? They just stopped being so open about it.)

5. "Christ never lost or failed - we shouldn't either."
Christ was beaten and hung on a cross to die. He never lost or failed?

14. Being hung on a cross to die was kind of the whole point...
Of Jesus being "sent" to earth in the first place.

19. I think Tori Amos answered this with crucify.
Christianity by definition has a victim complex.

Got a kick for a dog beggin' for love
I gotta have my suffering so that I can have my cross
I know a cat named Easter
He says will you ever learn
You're just an empty cage girl
If you kill the bird

I've been looking for a savior in these dirty streets
Looking for a savior beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands
Drive another nail in
Got enough guilt to start my own religion

Why do we crucify ourselves
Every day
I crucify myself
Nothing I do is good enough for you
I crucify myself
Every day
I crucify myself
And my heart is sick of being in
I said my heart is sick of being in
Chains

7. Whatever happened to healing the sick and feeding the hungry?
Surely that "Christian" speaker would call sick and starving people losers. :grr: That just goes against everything I've ever heard about "real" Christianity.

What Would Jesus Do now? Probably roll over in his grave if he had one. :(

12. The....
...."God only helps those who help themselves" was always a convenient excuse not to give to or to help the poor.
If they'd actually read those bibles they walk around with they wouldn't be able to find that quote in any of the scriptures I'm sure

13. Damn, sounds like Christ can't even get into his own church anymore
Let's see, betrayed, beaten, crucified, speared, sounds like a victim to me. I guess fundy sects are getting a lot more picky about who they accept, how very un-Christ like.

18. after reading George Lakoff's Moral Politics...
I can understand how these people come up with the things that they do. These fundies definitely borrow a lot of their beliefs from Calvinism...Personal wealth, good health, etc are all outward signs of God's grace. So I understand where they are coming from, but they are still dead wrong

20. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice...
...saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

And one ran and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.

And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
