Preview sucks, but it was directed by the guy who made "Dog Soldiers" and it's gotten a lot of rave reviews on IMDB. I think I'll go catch a matinee show when it comes out this Friday.

and cynically laced wiith special effects and crude jokes in order to appeal to early teens.
The alternative would be to hire talented writers and directors and turn them loose to make films for intelligent people, as was done a lot in the late 1960s and 1970s.
