3. What's it all about?
I just don't GET it.

I try, so hard, to watch it, so I can keep up with what my students watch. I end up just scratching my head and wondering what the point is.

5. You start off with easy "gateway" anime
Try with Miyazki films, and if you're ready, Akira by Otomo.

14. FullMetal Alchemist
was my gateway. :). I've watched so much since then.

FMA
Cowboy Beebob
Trigun
Gunslinger Girl
Wolf's Rain
Samurai Champloo(Most recent)
Akira
GitS
Inyuasha(first 50 epps plus he first movie.)

Those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head. I watched the first FMA epp on CN, and then watched the subbed version of the entire series. Damn good stuff.

4. Is Dragon Ball Z really better in its original form?
I understand it was a more coherent and logical narrative before it was cut down into 22-minute slices, true? Not that the entertainment value of guys yelling and dropping mountains on each other isn't enough by itself...

Now longer do you have the incesant dialogue that lasts for minutes on screen, but the really bad back and forth fighting still exists.

38. It's about a war photographer who gets back to Japan
From ANN: "Ten years after the Bubble War, the dichotomy between the rich and the poor in the world becomes more prominent and Japan is no exception. The rich seeks to satisfy their desires and derive pleasure for themselves, and Tokyo has materialise into such a city as a result. Saiga, once a war photographer, works for Hibara Ginza in the capitalist state of Tokyo. He infiltrates into Roppongi Club, a secretive base located in the red district area of the city, to collect information about them. However, he was caught in the process and brought forward to a girl called Kagura who was in the midst of a ritual. His contact with Kagura awakens his special ability: the power to make things explode once photographed. In order to unravel the mystery behind the Roppongi Club and Kagura, Saiga begins his solitary battle."

001 is a telepath baby. Who, by the way, was the instrument of retcon in this case. (fans were outraged at the death of the heroes and it was then established that 001 teleported them to the surface before they were too badly burned at reentry)

After the series finished in Japan, Hideki Anno got death threats from his fans for making a bad ending to a good series. Making a bad ending to a good series is "pulling and Anno."

89. i am appreciative of the entire palette of colors used by anime artists...
not every theme & storyline make the cut, the mech stuff gets a little tiring unless it is special in some other way, but all in all great things are in there...

what about Cat Soup http://www.centralparkmedia.com/catsoup i liked that very much very sweet if sad :-)
