I'm pretty tan all over, but my left arm is darker from driving with the windows down. Ah, the joys of not having air-conditioning in the car. I normally don't use it anyway, but there's been a couple days that have been so humid, I really wanted it. Not worth the expense though on a Jeep with 140,000 miles.

9. For years I had a diver's tan |
|
Just the hands and sometimes the face, though I usually lathered on suncreen so diligently (and wore wide-brimmed hats and polarized shades) that I could come back from a two-month tropical field trip, even with all the reflected light bouncing around everywhere, almost as pale as when I left for it. I almost always wore at least a lycra jumpsuit, if not a neoprene one, and only very occasionally dived in the Body Glove (formfitting) surf shorts and short-sleeve top that I wore under my dive suits. Sometimes I got more color in me, if I spent much time exploring topside, but it was usually just the hands and to some extent sometimes the face...sometimes my tan was almost totally AWOL because I always wore gloves when diving and usually only took them off when out on the water to work on my underwater camera gear.
Looked kind of funny when I'd get back to my then hometown and walk around with very pale arms and mahogany-tanned hands...like some kind of reverse Mickey Mouse.
While working with me, my brother once got badly singed while wearing a shortie wetsuit and for a while thereafter he walked around in sandals with white skin up to the lower third of his shin (booties), the outline of a dive knife scabbard and straps on his left leg, and white skin on the upper half of his thigh. The rest was first bright red and then became darkly tanned before fading away. The knife outline was a classic.
