My baby girl got on a plane by herself to visit her grandparents |
|
Abby is only 6 yrs old and yesterday I fought back tears 5 times when she pre-boarded the plane and traveled to St. Louis by herself for the first time to visit Grandma and Papa. :( She'll be gone for 12 days. The longest I've ever been away from her was for 3 days and that 3rd day was pure hell for me. :( Abby, on the other hand was very excited and couldn't get on that plane fast enough.
I know I'll start going crazy in a few days but for now but I have to be honest with you and say that this has been the most relaxing Sunday I've experienced in 6 years. I woke up on my own. I didn't watch one single cartoon. The house has been very quiet. I don't have share snuggle time with my husband. We can get up and do whatever we want whenever we want. We have no idea what to do though so we haven't done anything, but it's nice knowing we could. ;)

2. I'm extremely proud of her independence |
|
She's 10 times more brave than I was at her age. I love that about her. :)

4. By the time my oldest was 16 |
|
I KNEW he could make his way from LAX to MY FRONT DOOR. Kids who learn this recognize no "borders." I hope you're really proud of her.

5. My son flew to Alaska by himself at age 6 |
|
He'd been on summer visitation at his dad's, and dad's wife was treating him VERY badly (I should have called Child Protective Services on the bitch)
I was working in Alaska for the summer, and made it very clear to his dad that not only would he get him a non-stop to AK out of San Francisco, he would also be paying for the ticket, and if he squawcked about it at all, I woul dbe back in the states to file against him to completely remove all of his visitation rights (I had full custody). I also told him that said son would not be visiting any more unless he could be with his dad 24/7, otherwise he was welcome to come have his vistation where I lived (anther state).
Son flew the loooong flight to Anchorage. His dad made a point to do visitation by coming to where we lived.
Anyway...many hugs for you dear GS!
It's hard to have your child 1) go on a plane by themselves for the first time, and so young, and 2) having to be without them at all...I know I always worried when my son was away. More    for you!

9. My rascally boys flew to Kansas one summer |
|
I did not find out about their adventure until they were grown ups..
They had a change of planes in Arkansas (?) and they slipped away from the flight attanedant who was to help them transfer.. They spent all their money playing video games and at the candy store.. They WERE caught, and still made their flight.. but sheez..
Now I know why they charge extra for unaccomplanied minors.. Little brats..
I think they were 12, 8 & 7 at the time...

|
 thank you for saying that. I know she'll love every second of it and I'm glad she's getting the chance to really know her grandparents. I just need to keep reminding myself this. :)
