Dr. Laura's "shark-infested waters" deal...
I sometimes read her letters from viewers for a lark. Some of them come back to her metaphor for a perfect man...
"Someone who will walk/swim through shark-infested waters just to bring his wife an ice-cold lemonade."

(As an aside, am I the only one who hates the ubiquitous "ice-cold" description for every single non-hot beverage in the world? I don't *want* everything to be ice-cold.)

Anyway...Usually, this "perfect man" is the former jerk the letter-writer married, who became the perfect man (or, more specifically, let his god-given perfect man potential come out) only after the letter-writer stopped ever saying "no" to sex, started cooking three-course meals every night, and decided, two cars or a nice vacation be damned, to quit her job and stay home with the kids (even if the kids are in high school and gone for most of the day).

But regardless of the 1950s lifestyle...I keep coming back to the shark-infested waters/lemonade deal, and I look at that and I can't understand even wanting that level of devotion. That's stupid devotion. I don't want a man who will do stupid things just to make me more comfortable.

I suppose putting my future law degree to use means I'll have to get my own damn lemonade while my partner takes a boat or waits for me to cross the bridge over the waters.
