Did Mel Gibson threaten an officer with his "I'll get even" remark?
Is this grounds for a lawsuit? Is this a threat to an officer? Gibson told one cop he owns Malibu, and would spend all his money to get even with him.

What if I had said that on record to an arresting officer, how would the court deal with me, a schmuck out here in Dumberica?

I have said things i didn't mean under the influence at one time.

is not always my friend.

8. Alcohol loosens inhibitions
sometimes allowing things to come out that we hide from others. This incident has just confirmed what many people have suspected for a long time. Just like his father, Mel Gibson is an anti-Semite.

10. That is not what the OP asked.
"What if I had said that on record to an arresting officer, how would the court deal with me, a schmuck out here in Dumberica?"

So if you, sasha031, told police officers to fuck off, called them names, and threatened them, how do you think you would be treated?

12. Wasn't he only slightly over the legal limit in terms of BAC?
That would mean he was in complete control of his mental faculties.

But we already know Mel Gibson is a bigoted asshole. I don't get what's the rush to defend him.

5. Zsa Zsa Gabor slapped a cop in Beverly Hills
(Don't try this at home kids.) She said "don't you know who I am?" He said "No, How about some ID." And she slapped him.

I used to joke that when you call 911 in L.A. you get connected to "Entertainment Tonight"; they ask "does your emergency involve a celebrity?" If "no" you get transferred to the LAPD and put on hold for 10 minutes.

The rules are different for LA celebs.

7. it's grounds for a criminal charge
it's only grounds for a civil case if the officer suffers damage. until gibson fulfills his threat, at worst the cop could argue that he's had sleepless nights. not much of a civil case.

but the threat, in this case, sound to me like it amounts to criminal extortion, especially if the threat was specifically tied to interfering with the cop doing his/her job.

much ado about nothing......

If you, a regular schmuck had said ANY of this it would have been completely ignored. The only reason it wasn't ignored is because of his celebrity status.

11. Gee, I can't wait for that episode of "COPS" ...
Oh, wait ... when did Malibu cops stop taping every car they pulled over? I guess that it was probably when the arresting officer "accidentally" hit the erase button when they realized who was in the car ...

Just an example of why the "tape of the arrest" somehow never shows up ... you see these tapes on all the COPS shows that show all the backwoods places that cops normally would not have had the $$$ to install such cameras on their squad cars, right?
