Is my subconscious telling me something? |
|
I had this awful nightmare last night. Ann Coulter, Bill Clinton and Al Gore were all advisors on my dissertation committee, and, oddly enough, Al and Bill were giving me guff for being too liberal. Coulter was telling me to go for it, that liberals weren't really that bad. I woke up in a cold sweat. What is my brain trying to tell me?!? :wtf:

5. Once When Bill And Al Were Still In Office... |
|
I dreamed I went to a pool party, and Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Al and Tipper Gore were among the guests running around the backyard pool buck naked. They came running up to me at the gate and said, "Come on in and join the fun!"
I said, "Sorry, I have to go deliver some Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds."
It turned out my wife was pregnant, and I didn't consciously know it yet. : )

And I was some kind of "Chief Brody" I think. I was preparing to do battle with them when I woke up. I can understand my dream and its subconscious implications. Your dream is hard for me to understand though. I think perhaps you're brain is telling you that you're spending too much time in political forums.

7. damned Anderson Cooper won't leave me alone |
|
I keep dreaming about him and I don't know why.
In the first dream I had last week about him, we got married, but try as we might we couldn't consumate our wedding. We were like two magnets of the same pole, we just repelled each other. It was like kissing my brother.
In the next dream I had about him I had bought a small red car and my Dad broke it. I was mad and Anderson was on my side. He was in the front seat and we were driving. My Dad was in the back seat running his mouth as usual and being cantankerous. Eventually me and Anderson just got out and walked around.

8. Your brain has it right. The key to reducing the heat ... |
|
... in a dissertation defense is to split the committee. Intentionally add someone who is at odds with your major professor, and try to get your major professor to make a pointed criticism of you during the defense. Your other committee members will raise an eyebrow, and being typical academics, argue the other side (your side).
Bill and Gore (a single administration) hammer your politics. Coulter, being every bit as egocentric as the worst in academe, leaps to your defense.
Find an Ann Coulter for your committee.

that in-depth analysis of any subject can lead you to understand the other side more clearly. Supposedly JFK once said that genius was being able to understand diametrically opposed views and believe both of them. That doesn't mean you have to agree with both, but at the level of concentration and understanding of your thesis required for a dissertation, you are beginning to understand opposing viewpoints of your thesis, and factor them in, maybe. Bill and Al are warning you not to fight your understanding of the other POV, while Coulter is demonstrating the flip side, that there is something in your POV that the opposing view could relate to, as well. Maybe. Or maybe your dream is cautioning you that you are missing an alternative side of your thesis because of your ideology (not necessarily political).
