This happened last weekend up a road I rather frequent. The wire story is
here, but the gist is a fellow in a long line of soft-top jeeps was killed by a 75-pound rock that fell through the roof, right behind the windshield.
Killed the driver instantly, passenger reached over and grabbed the wheel, turning into the mountain so they didn't plummet off the cliff on the other side.
I was talking to the sheriff, who actually was born here. He said he'd never seen anything like it. That's saying something, because he's been around long enough to have seen
something like just about
everything.Rock didn't hit the passenger. Didn't hit the Jeep behind him, or in front of him. Hit him. Just him.
I'm on that road a lot in the summer, and think about that sort of thing often. How it's just a matter of getting your ticket punched when it's time. That kind of seemingly random, amazingly accurate smiting makes me consider a higher power at work. :shrug:
