A funny thing happened to ginbarn at the restaurant today...
We just got out of a magic shop around noon today, and ginbarn had a new mentalism trick that she's been dying to get her hands on for a week a so. We took a look at a Democratic rally literally just across the street, but the crowds were getting really big and overwhelming, so we bugged out of the rally and headed out for lunch.

So here's ginbarn and I at a nearby restaurant for lunch, and she decides to try out the new trick on one of the waitresses. The trick is a big success. In fact, it's too successful. Now our waitress thinks that ginbarn isn't a magician - she's a psychic! And now she's hitting up ginbarn advice and readings on her life. And she even brought her fellow waitress over to see the trick, too.

And then the waitress starts spilling out her life story to us. I turn back to my meal so as not to seem intrusive, leaving my wife to reassure the waitress as best as she could that all will turn out all right.

Now ginbarn's a little scared to try out that illusion on anyone else. It's very cool, but I think we should try avoiding use of the trick on anyone who may be highly suggestible. At least ginbarn is using her new-found powers for good instead of evil.

1. Can I borrow her before I take my next bar exam?
Assuming I failed yet again?

2. Don't know if the trick works that way, but I'll ask her
We DUers have to stick together...

3. I hope she used the opportunity to plant political ideas in the minds of
these waitresses. She should do that everywhere--convince the easily fooled (in other words, Republicans) that she is psychic, and that terrible things will happen if the Repubs aren't defeated in every election as soon as possible.

4. She considered it - but that would just be wrong
She was momentarily tempted to get the waitress to cover our tab.

Magicians, by necessity, are con artists. The only thing is that their spectators are almost always aware that they're being conned, and they're cool with it. But when you stumble across someone who thinks you've got actual powers, that's when it gets a little hairy.

5. We're in a WAR, man! Fight! Break the rules! Use ANY weapon!
Okay, I understand. Thanks for having high standards. Forgive my momentary lapse of conscience. :(

6. Aw, man - and I just scribbled that advice in my notebook
Worse still, ginbarn knows what I just wrote! She's a mentalist, after all...

7. If the same response happens again when she tries out the trick
she should just let the person know that it's imperative that they vote Dem from now on to guarantee that things go the way they want them to go
