Who the heck buys frozen corn on the cob in August???? So I'm taking my time deciding what frozen goody I will get. This woman is asking the stocker person where the frozen corn on the cob is? This went on for about 5 minutes because they didn't have the full ears (just halves) in stock and she knows that they used to, blah blah blah. I wanted to point her in the direction of produce section. Given the items in her cart, I'm not sure she realized there was one.

Now I recognize the utility and tastiness of some veggies, but corn on the cob? in August? Yuck.

I wasn't even there, and I want to kill her and keep her from having any contact with her children, in the hopes that the children can be raised in a healthy, decent, intelligent environment.

Oh, I have such a nasty insulting thing to say as a leftover from many sad and unfortunate and depressing truths I learned working at the grocery store, but I won't, because a lot of people will jump all over me calling me insensitive and rude.

2. One time when I worked in restaurants...

This 14 year old boy came up and asked if we had any of those plastic lemon juice containers--the ones that look like lemons and have lemon juice in them. I asked him why he wanted one, and he said he needed to put lemon juice on his fish. I told him I'd slice up a lemon for him instead, and he said without irony: "Oh--will that work?"

As for me, at aged 8 or 9, I truly didn't believe you could buy broccoli fresh. Knew it grew in the ground, of course, but I thought the only way it could be marketed to consumers was for it to come in a little box that went in your freezer.

No wonder Americans are so fucked-up about food!!

3. I beg to differ.

I bet that frozen corn is fresher than the fresh. Most frozen veg is frozen almost in the field, unlike the corn that has been setting in the bin for goodness knows how long.

crappy. I see people complaining about them in the supermarket. Hasn't been a great year from what I gather. I am not a big corn eater but I might be tempted to buy frozen if the fresh stuff didn't look good.

and tells you to cut the tops off because it's never been sprayed, that's some very delicious organic corn. :9 We had some last night, with some equally fresh, organic, and delicious tomatoes from the same neighbor. :bounce:

I agree with you, though. I just don't like frozen corn on the cob.

7. I use frozen vegetables a lot

Not corn on the cob, however. I really love the way you have to peel the fresh stuff. Reminds me so much of summers when I was a kid. However, in Texas,I am not sure how fresh the "fresh" corn really is. At least at the grocery store.

9. This is a good example of "go to the farmer's market" time.

I don't go for everything; but you are right--there's no excuse for this in the beginning of August when I am sure there is fresh picked daily at her local Farmer's Market. It's worth the trip.

I gave my neighbor fresh corn from the garden once. She called me later & said something was wrong it, it had "stringy stuff" all over it when she opened it. That same neighbor didn't want my fresh tomatoes because some of them had faded spots on them. :scared:
