Iron Chef America
It is a pleasure of mine to watch, but is it just me or are the judges on that show the most pretentious people on the planet? It takes some real balls to tell these world famous chefs that what they have just cooked for you is not good enough. Tonight Gael Green from NY Magazine was on and she totally shit on this guys dish because "she doesn't like sweet," plus she wore this big hat to disguise her identity, like chefs in New York don't already know who this withered up old hag is.

6. Iron Chef America would be better if they got rid of Kevin whatshisname
I can deal with Alton Brown in pretty large doses, but I'm seriously allergic to Kevin Brauch - even if he *is* Canadian.

12. Japan is such a polite society.
I loved the way they used the word "subtle" to describe a dish that had no flavor. :D

19. After having watched most of the original Iron Chef
I can't stomach that crap with the American version. Sometimes I might turn in if Morimoto is on there since he was also party of the original Iron Chef

3. I am a TOTAL
original Iron Chef fan. I got hooked on it when my daughter was an infant and it played at 11:00 PM on the Food Network. Thats when she woke up for her first night BF session. One of her first words were "Iron Chef!" and no, I am not joking. I wish they would play that show more. The Iron Chef America just doesn't have the same freaky over the top pizazz that the Japanese version did. I miss it. :(

4. Totally!
And then they spend the rest of the judging kissing the ass of the iron chef--unless it is Cat Cora. For some reason, they aren't very nice to her. :(

22. Yes especially the judge...
...I can't think of her name but she wrote the book "Untangling my Chopsticks," whenever Morimoto is the Chef it doesn't matter what he cooks. He could serve her a spring roll with dog shit in it and she would love it. I swear one time I just thought just get it over with and go down on him for christ's sake.

5. I love Iron Chef, but prefer the Japanese version.
The only thing I don't like is when they cut up live seafood.

7. Yeah, she was really bitchy.
But - it doesn't take balls to tell a famous chef their food doesn't measure up; it takes only honesty and a true critic's mind. it does no service to people to lie about their stuff; it does great service to let them know whether you like or not, and why you like it or don't like it.

I don't any professional, except the ego-laden assholes, who don't want honest criticism like the judges on Iron Chef show.

The big hat on Gael really pissed me off. It was rude, IMO. Just as rude as wearing sunglasses inside, or chewing gum while doing an interview.

But please do not be alarmed or upset that the judges are actually, you know, judging and offering critique.

8. My wife commented...
...after the challenger got slapped with several criticism's during the judging that it was now time for the "Kiss Bobby Flay's Ass-A-Thon"

She was right.

Flay may be an awesome chef for all I can tell... but something about the guy just grates on me.

Alton Brown rocks, but I really miss Chairman Kaga.

9. Flay has that Danny Bonaduce thing -- just on the edge of
being an a-hole most of the time, and clearly an a-hole the rest of the time. Would hate to work for him. And his premier restaurant, Mesa Grill, gets scores on the low side of respectable.

I much prefer the enthusiastic Batali or serious and quirky Morimoto.

10. That just about nails it...
Though Flay comes across on TV as an amiable fellow, you get the feeling that it's all an act... like Martha Stewart. When the cameras aren't rolling, he's probably an insufferable prima-donna.

Of the Iron Chef America lineup, Morimoto is my favorite, though I fear his dishes are a bit too authentic for the American judges.

11. One exchange on Iron Chef I thought was pretty revealing
Flay was shouting at his sous and Alton Brown says:
"Bobby Flay is barking orders at his assistant."

Flay heard him and complained "See, that's why I have a reputation."

So he didn't think it WAS because he barks, he thought it was because Brown characterized it that way. In Flay's mind he is a nice guy. Which explains why he doesn't try that hard to be nice -- he is convinced he already is.

21. Morimoto is the best chef of the bunch
I haven't eaten at a Cat Cora restaurant, but I've eaten at Mesa Grill and a couple of Mario Batali's restaurants (including Babbo), and at Morimoto's - and I can tell you that Morimoto does by far the most interesting and tasty dishes of the bunch.

I suspect the dman thing is pseudo-fixed anyway, because the Iron Chefs win about 85% of the time.

Rachael Ray vs. Tony Bourdain.

14. Holy Hell...
I'd pay extra for that one!

I can just imagine Bourdain cussing a blue streak, lighting his tenth Marlboro in a row and knocking back a double shot while Rachael carries on with Alton Brown about the shrimp grits and she-crab soup she had in Charleston.

Talk about yin and yang.
