A toast to my grandmother, V. She'd have been 100 years old today, right now (on the east coast, at least).

Her husband, a carpenter and farmer, died younger than he should have (cancer) but she/they raised a fantastic woman, an only child. She's my mom.

My grandmother, as a religious woman, today would likely listen to all the shit that got panned out by the Fundies. To wit, she'd then tell them to shove it "where the sun don't shine" as it wasn't right, nor was it real. My gram would hand you your ass if you didn't have your story up to snuff. Family tradition that I hope I inherit someday.

My gram, V, raised this one hell of a firecracker, my mom. Brought me and my brother up largely by herself (an honors teacher, no less). My mom voted for Reagan. Voted for Bush I. Hell, she (and my dad) brought me up Rethuglican. Things change. Now, she's a retired teacher, pissed as hell and a dem. She's mostly vegetarian, and a gym rat too. She and her bratty-ass kid flvegan seem to be evolving together. No credit taken, thanks.

Kicking a lot of ass and taking names in the name of what's proper is a family value. It might have evolved, but once handed off, one runs with it.

My gram started this shit, and it looks like I'm here to finish it.

Please, for me, my friends...kick it one time. I'd not be here, nor who I am if not for the very strong women in my family.

Happy 100, gram. I love and miss you, and I thank you for getting me to where I am, and for getting us to where we are.

I'd love one of the T-shirts but I really have nowhere to wear it. I'm not allowed to wear clothing/buttons with political or religious expressions to my weekday job, I wouldn't want it to get ruined at my weekend job, and there's really nowhere else I go other than to run an errand here and there. It would also be silly to put it on for the measly 1-5 hours I'm home prior to leaving for work each evening then change to go to work.
