How did I get all these search engines on my computer
and how do I get rid of them?

I did a search on Starware and tried to delete the files, but they're protected. Same with Viewpoint. They are cluttering up my screen.

1. It's probably spyware
use Spybot Search & Destroy, and Lavasoft Ad-Aware to try to clean it up.

2. HijackThis is also excellent
You get it here: http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html?tag=lst-0-1

Then things get a tiny bit hinky. Your result is a HijackThis log, which is a bit hard to decipher unless you're a pretty advanced computer user. However, there are a gazillion online help desks. Search any result that looks suspicious to you (Google the file name plus "help desk" plus "hijackthis log"); of course you may recognize some of the results from your earlier Starware search. Only delete items that you're sure are spyware.

3. thanks to both of you
I'd also like to have a webpage that will host some images and information. Any suggestions where to get that?

4. You may find that your ISP already gives you free web space
I'm on Earthlink and they give us 4 pages. My pages are linked on my DU profile; I haven't updated them in four years, so there are still jokes about W being a one-term wonder, but it'll give you an idea of the kind of stuff you can do on ISP-provided space.
