Qustion for DU Air Cond maint techs. |
|
I just paid $400 to have my Heil heat pump A/C repaired. The fan motor that blows on the compressor and the capacitor had to be replaced. The whole unit is about five years old. Was that about an average price for work like that? Thanks in advance.

Apparently the compressor wouldn't start without it.

7. 5 yrs old? And it wasn't under warranty? |
|
Our system would have cost 6 times that, but we had kept up the extended warranty.

11. I'm no tech but I've had nothing but bad experiences with Heil. |
|
We had two Heil heatpumps installed in Jan '01. One unit had constant repairs over the last few years. Just this spring, we replaced the coil on it and a few months later the compressor died...again! We decided to give up on it and put in a York. The other Heil we still have and it isn't working properly. It won't throw very cold air but when we had it looked at the tech couldn't find anything wrong with it. That unit will be replaced sometime soon and it won't be with another Heil unit!!
We were told it would be about $600 to replace the compressor but with all the on going problems we had we decided to bite the bullet and replace the entire unit.
I won't buy Heil ever again. It's interesting to hear that someone else has had problems with them too. I'm sure no heatpumps are perfect but my experience with Heil is bad enough to not want their product ever again.
