A $10 donation to DU says Lamont wins in November |
|
Any takers? I'll cover the first 10, no make that the first 25 DUers who want to bet a $10 donation to DU that Lamont wins the Senate race in Connecticut in November.
Any of the sudden brigade of Lieberman supporters who seem to have appeared here overnight willing to put a little money where their keyboards are?

1. Does Lamont need a majority to win? |
|
If there is a run-off and the Rs have no candidate, they will all vote for Leiberman plus some of the swing voters (biggest group) and some of the Ds.

3. My reading of Connecticut laws |
|
I checked the Connecticut laws, and under chapter 146 section 9-173 says the winner of the election needs a plurality of the votes cast.
Come on, Joementum-ers! Ten bucks. You know you want your guy to win. And it's going to DU anyway. Ten bucks?

5. Does that mean he only needs more than anyone else? |
|
The term plurality suggests majority support from diverse groups.

A majority of votes is 50% + 1; a plurality is less than 50% but the most of any candidate. So if Lamont got 45%, Lieberman 35%, and Schlesinger 20%, Lamont would have the plurality.

4. Surely you can scrape together 10 bucks by November? |
|
You realize this offer is only for the folks who are sooooo worried that Lieberman will still win in November, and whose deepest, most frowny-faced concern is that by winning the primary, Lamont has turned this Senate seat over to the Republicans?
I'm persuaded that many of these posters are what is known as "concern trolls" who really don't care all that much one way or the other, but are in reality interlopers from other websites here to stir up trouble and dampen the elation of a truly progressive victory.
Any of these posters who take this little bet and pay off should they lose I will offer my most heartfelt apology. But if, as I suspect, these are pissed off repressive right types who just lost their most useful idiot in the Senate, I don't have a thing to worry about.

Gee, I guess I accurately gauged bona fide DU concern about Mr. Lieberman's chances in November.
