Stones or Billy Bragg
Billy Bragg plays in my home town (Halifax, Nova Scotia) on Sept 20 and 3 days later the Stones play an outdoor concert in the Commons. The usual $100 ticket price.
I could go to both but I think each would ruin the other.
Which should I chose?

PS The Dixie Chix played 2 shows here Tue and Wed. Awesome according to my daughter.

1. Billy Bragg
Half the original Stones are retired or dead. They also caved into the NFL during last year's Super Bowl and allowed themselves to be censored. I saw Bragg perform a benefit for striking coal miners 17 years ago and it was one of the best shows of my life. My friend wanted to finagle her way back stage so she could meet him. While we were trying to figure out how to do this he just came out and introduced himself to the straggling fans. Another friend worked on the stage crew. He gave them all shirts.

4. Billy Bragg.
The Stones are a tired nostalgia act anymore. Bragg's still creating a living body of work that's worth anyone's time. And he's a HOOT to see in concert.

6. Uncle Bill, hands down.
Look, the Stones were great -- in 1972. Braggy's been doing it RIGHT for the past 20+ years; and even when his records haven't been up to par (I'm not a fan of his last decade), his concerts are still amazing.

I've seen both live. And I have no desire to see the Stones again. I'd see Bragg again and again and again.

9. He's never heard of you either
Billy Bragg is a singer songwriter that combines absolutely righteous lyrics with an entertaining stage show. The Stones were the world's greatest rock and roll band, long, long ago

10. Too bad you've never heard of Billy

The Strolling Bones ( as they are known in the UK) are a joke in their own country.

They have done nothing in the last 20 years. They are the Las Vegas of Rock.
Sure the lights are great, but they are a travesty of their former selves.

I've decided to choose Billy.

If you've never heard of him, think Woody Guthrie. If you haven't heard of Woody, then you know nothing about music.

(although, having never seen the Stones myself, I might choose them, since God knows they might not be around a whole lot longer!)

12. Stones If You Like to Be Entertained with Props, If Not, Then Billy
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 08:30 PM by Crisco
If you've never seen Billy play live, you should do it.

Not only will he join the local picket line for whomever is striking, but he'll have you in stitches, too.

I got to see the Stones once, ages ago. Everyone around me thought they were great but I thought they were passionless and depended way too much on their inflatables. Openers Living Colour were far bettter.
