What kind of raise did you get this year?
I had my review yesterday afternoon and for my hard work I got a 2.6% raise...

Doesn't even cover the cost of living. Heck GAS goes up by that amount on a DAILY basis.

Company is always crying poor mouth when it comes to employees.

6. No, it's not illegal...state of Missouri workers went
about five years without a pay increase and I believe that was at a time Democrats were governors.

It may not be illegal but in my opinion it's immoral for a company not to give you SOME kind of pay increase. I'm sure the higher ups are doing quite well while those who create the wealth by their work struggle.

10. We deserve some kind of pay increase
Esp. since we usually always work over the 37.5 hours per week we get paid for and don't qualify for overtime.

Our gas mileage just went up to 29 cents per gallon.
It was at 25 and then when gas went up to $3/gallon for the first time last year, it went up to 27 cents.

1. Thank you for the compliment on my avatar

2. I don't know what to make of this co-worker. She grew up working class but she and her husband, although they have working class jobs (he works on the river but makes GOOD MONEY doing difficult work) they make a lot of money each year. They have no kids and have A LOT of discretionary income. She lives in the suburbs and has said that she believes the war on Iraq would have happened regardless of who was in the White House so she does not hold * responsible for the deaths.

To answer your question...I think she's brainwashed. She's not a deep thinker and takes pride in not reading books.

I can't figure out how to paste his yoda picture...I'm losing it tonight

At the moment I'm getting unemployment but that only lasts a few more months. I'm either going to have to find a job that pays enough to justify daycare (unlikely in the extreme) or go on aid.

Just doing my general ed stuff at the moment so that I can transfer to a uni and get a real degree.

I was supposed to get it in early June but the CEO is slow and has now been out sick for a few weeks. I have no problem being patient since I have seen some evidence that I may be made a VP. Probably get just a small raise like 3% since we haven't had any new business lately.

23. Shhh! Don't remind them it's review season!
We usually get reviews at this time of year. But who knows, considering the many ways my company has transmogrified over the past year.

Raises come with the calendar year, usually. Not tied specifically to performance reviews--or so they say.

24. Funny you should post this ....I just got one today!
Effective immediately I will get an extra $5,000 a year, and then when my actual review comes up in December at least another 3%, maybe 4%!
I asked and they gave. I almost feel like I should have asked for more but I am not so astute in these situations and it was tough enough to go in and ask for what I got.
I will say I was somewhat surprised today when my boss told me about it. I had asked 3 weeks ago and was denied pretty much outright. Then yesterday I got a phone call at home from him saying he hadn't given up and was going to take another run at it with the "higher ups"

isn't moi.

What irks me is that my boss is eligible for a bonus representing 10% of her salary...how does she get that bonus you ask...well she gets that bonus by the people she supervises making department goals. However in her defense she does work very hard and I've never seen her in a bad mood or stressed to the point of taking it out on us.

30. I had my hours cut back
The union and I are still trying to figure out how this happened (and what can be done about it), since we had just finalized an agreement which stated that as a long-service part-timer I was entitled to a number of hours which matched the annual average I worked, based on the previous 3 years. I know it's not due to quality complaints, since the department just gave me a satisfactory evaluation.

76. well, I could quit, but...
It's part time might work, which is what fits best with my lifestyle. Most of the rest of part time night stuff in the area is retail which pays minimum wage. I get paid more than that and get some vacation pay, which is practically unheard of here for parttimers. There's also a fair amount of flexibility in the scheduling which is good for me. So, even though the raises are never going to make me rich, overall it's a good fit me me.

52. In the past four years
My raises have totalled about 1.25 per hour. Totalled!

Every year my employers offer some excuse, a la "we're reinvesting in the company" or "it's time to tighten our belts." But every year they produce these offensively and narcissistically expensive Christmas cards featuring formal portraits of every sub-unit of the company's ruling family, so there's clearly enough money floating around for that.

And why do I want a Christmas card, for fuck's sake? I'm an atheist! I don't send them a volume of Bertrand Russell every holiday season, do I?

Also, a week or so after my yearly "sorry, there's no money for raises" ass-kicking, the department heads of my company each take home multi-million dollar bonuses. Each of those bonuses is six or seven times what my entire department earns in a year, but there's no money for raises.

55. we don't have annual reviews. There are performance standards
everybody knows them, and if you meet the monthly performance standards, you get a step increase. In my particular dept, they distribute them quarterly, so you could get one in the quarter or three in the quarter, then they would apply.

Sometimes you get one and sometimes you don't. We also have bonus opportunites for a variety of things and I have managed to get a few of those. Nice part about that is if your bonus calcs out to some weird amt likde $242.00..the company does the with holding, and SS Tax and 401K matching on whatever amount it would take to have you net out $242.00 so in addition to the actual bonus, I get matching in my 401k and it doesn't hurt me tax wise either.

I got a promotion, and my union finally settled on the salary issues with my employer. So I'm making about 45% more than what I was making last year at this time. But, my husband got out of the military last year and took a pay cut, so we're actually looking at a decrease in household income. But at least it's not as bad as if I hadn't been promoted. And I'm happy my husband is out of the military, no matter the price.

58. 3.25% of jack-squat
Which is a whopping .25% increase over last year's max raise allowance. It is so bad this year that all but three of my coworkers are seeking out second jobs (and all three of these are in married dual-income households). I'm stuck because I'm a single parent and see little enough of my kid as it is, and am loathe to give up that little bit of time I do have. But, I've been pulling the belt tighter and tighter each month and I am definitely feeling the pinch (I have $1.63 to last me until september!!). After rent and bills, I literally have nothing until the following month (I get paid once a month).

Thanks god I don't (can't get) credit cards, or I'd be even further up shit creek.

68. Sweet fuck-all.
My employer does not believe in raising wages to cover increases in cost of living. They say it "rewards bad workers". Of course it's just bullshit cause they don't want to pay us a damned cent more.

So every year, we all do the same work for, effectively, less money.

77. well...
well, they're dumbasses

a cost of living raise is what you give people across the board to meet the demand of the increase of "the cost of living" this in turn keeps people stimulating the economy(which benefits them as a company in the long run), and helps people from filing chapter 7.

a merit raise based on each person's work, is how you don't reward bad workers by not giving it to them, you only give it to the people who deserve it

what the hell are these people saying, they hire bad workers? That does make them look too swift.

Maybe if they paid better, they would get better people doing a better job.

I have a suggestion...do less work, less effectively. I'm so bad/mad. Just don't get fired, or I'll feel badly.

70. 14%. But I was woefully underpaid for what I do.
And it was a long time in coming, as the company was on shaky grounds for many years.

71. None yet....however....
I started a new job back in October, and my annual review is coming up this October. When I started this job, my base pay was 25% higher than my previous job, and I get quarterly "incentive compensation" (i.e. bonuses). So if you look at my pay from last year at this time, it's risen substantially. :D

72. I got a really nice raise.
Will work out to about another 5K a year, net. But that's because I low-balled myself when I started here and they had to compensate me for being awesome. :D

74. 4.8%, best raise in 7 years.
Previous 2 years were 2% and 2.5%... of course healthcare premiums also doubled the past 2 years. I felt great till I talked to my friend who makes 65k at a workplace that only does 35 work weeks, telecommute etc.. he got a 10% raise....

Difference between a growing and stagnat company I suppose.

75. 3 percent "cost of living" increase
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 10:23 AM by MorningGlow
Nothing tied to performance. Everyone got 3 percent, which is so frickin' generous compared with last years 2.5 percent. Now, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain who's raising our parking fees at the same time (last year's 2.5 percent "raise" was trumped by parking's 3 percent increase).

And yes, we MUST pay for parking--less if you hike from what I term Way Far Lot, or more if you can swing it, so you walk a shorter distance from a closer lot--but there are absolutely no accommodations for not paying for parking at all--especially if you live 25 minutes away, like I do, in a small town not on a bus line, and with a toddler in tow who needs to go to grandma's.

Phkers.

Oh wait--why do I suspect that those VPs who get six-figure salaries and can park right behind the building have their parking fees waived? Hmmm...

On edit: This is a university, so they always cry poor because they're "nonprofit". Never mind the newspaper articles that talk about how some of the professors and researchers here are paid in the $1 mil range.
