3. I actually got in a fight in jail over a Scrabble game once.
Dumbest reason for a fight.....ever.

He didn't think I could put an "s" on the word tin. As in "I went to the store and bought two tins of tobacco." The guard said, "You guys were fighting over WHAT???" Nobody was hurt, but I still felt really stupid afterwards (even though I was right).

9. I have no idea, but this is how it got started.
In HS, I had this awesome G&T writing mentor. Anyway, we were talking about what we did on New Year's Eve. The party I went to turned out really lame. We played scrabble and then the ball dropped and the guy hosting it announced that he had work early, so we had to go to bed. Dude, then why are you hosting a party???

Anyway, so I'm in the school library complaining to her that I only played scrabble and she says, "Oh lucky. I wanted to play scrabble with my husband, but it was going to be strip scrabble and he wasn't in the mood." Anyway, a couple years later she left him and now she's with a guy that definitely would play strip scrabble if asked.

So I don't know how it works, but I'll ask her next time I talk to her.

OMG, you like action figures too?! *swoon*

Tommorrow, I have to go to my new skool and do crappy stuff...boooooo! But, then I get to meet sniffa in the city for an outing, which I'm very much looking forward to. :D

Will you be offline again this weekend? If so, I'll miss you...but I promise, if I get in another fight, I'll tell you first. :D

Although, the party I'm going to is going to be square central... "normal" people :boring:...The chances of a fight will be considerably lessened...hehe.

I'll miss you, too. Unfortunately, I will also be attending a square party up there as it is my step-grandfather's birthday. Oh well, it'll be balanced with lots of swimming and boating. Hopefully, the fishing won't suck rancid platypus balls this weekend.

Yeah, I'm into action figures. I have a shitload of GI Joes, two action figure Jesus (it used to be three, but I gave the black Jesus to a professor), a few X-Files and Matrix figures, too. Actually, a Jesus and a Scully live in with the leopard geckos.

Here Scully's head is clawed by the aptly named, Killer.

22. My male is HUGE too.
Actually about six months ago, I was getting worried because it seemed like he was dropping weight. Then, all of a sudden, he had this massive growth spurt, grew about 1.5" and got FAT. He's three or four years old, so I wasn't expecting a big growth spurt like that. If he had a full tail, then he'd truly be giant.

The spousal abuse occurred a few years back when she was in mid-shed...He decided to "help" her, and ripped a big piece off, in a bad way...Exposed flesh, etc...I nursed her through the night, took her to my kickass vet (Dr. Katz!) and had to apply steroid cream every day...She stayed up for 2 weeks, all jacked up on 'roids...No eating, just standing on her hind legs in the corner for days...I thought she'd die, but she's a-ok today, thank jeebus...I love them so. :)

Tried to reunite them at some point, but he's a total hater...She's happier alone, I think :)

25. I am too. My roommate in college and I would play our
particular game of Scrabble. We were VERY enthusiastic players:

1: Most memorable game- Recently she and her husband and I played a game. I was the first player to lay down the first word. The thing was, I immediately came up with the word "Squeaks". I felt deep moral ambiguity about putting the word down. (These two are serious word buffs too) I hemmed & hawed until they pestered me to just take my turn. I put the word down, they regarded it, and neither would talk to me for the rest of the game: "Mike, ask Steffi if she would like a beer; I see hers is empty" and, "Dawn, tell Steffi there's leftover pizza in the fridge. It's still good."

2: Dawn & I played for style mostly. That was a given. She'd put down the word "fey" or "avuncular" and I would applaud. And vice-versa. But eventually one of us would break the style code with a cheap shot: "axe" or "zoo" and be anointed "Point Whore" for the rest of the game.

3: We'd play some games according to themes: money, love, books, and TV.

:D Thank you for this thread, darlin.

He said I let him win, but I told him a little white lie and said I didn't. It's not that I'm great with words, I'm just good at placing the tiles to gain the most points.

47. That's what I do to.
I'll place only a few tiles, but rack up points all over the place. Oh, that pisses people off. :7

Of course, when two of us play who both build words that way we end up with a tight little knot of words and have a hell of a time expanding out across the board.

34. Oh, Man! You Should Have Seen. . .
. . .the Science Channel show the other night. Sorry, i'm having a brain cramp, but every Friday night they have a show about recent discoveries and innovations in technology.

Anyway, they were demonstrating this new on-line scrabble projector. It sits above the board, and acually project the images of tiles. So, if you were playing with people in other locations, you'd put your board under the camera/projector.

Then, when you place tiles, the image would project onto their boards, and when they placed tiles, those images would hit your board. It would then be an actual board game where everyone didn't have to be in the same state, let alone at the same table.

Right now, it's super-expensive, but i would guess it's just a matter of time before it becomes affordable.

39. Like Poker Folks, Huh?
It was awesome. IIRC, the current cost was something like 10 grand. The board was a special board, the pieces were special, then the camera and monitor, plus the need for broadband connection.

But, i thought it was also a cool way to do almost any board game.

50. I'll try to explain....here goes:
Speed Scrabble

You don't use the board.
Each player picks 7 letter tiles. Someone says "go" and the players turn over their tiles and attempt to make their own scrabble puzzle, using their tiles. For instance, if you have tiles a, b, c , d , e, o and t, you could make:

c a b
e
d o t

The first player to use all seven tiles, yells "take two" and each player takes two more tiles. The players continue to make their own puzzles (building and rebuilding), taking two tiles each time a player uses up all of his tiles until all the tiles have been used. The first player finished wins. A player can add to his puzzle or completely redo it--whatever he choses.

51. Also...
near the end of the game, depending upon how many players you have, you may have to just "take one" tile or, if there is not a tile left for every one, just leave the extra tiles. Hope this explains it.

where you are allowed to pick up tiles already the table, combine them with tiles in your hand and rearrange them as long as you can make complete words? It is a lot of fun.

was when she realized she'd taught me so well that I could beat her. CONSISTENTLY. My siblings are freaks. My children are freaks. Bi-lingual is GREAT FUN, but we use the German board because of the letter distribution. Words spelled the same way in both languages get doubled scores. An online site for pickup games:
