Are there any internet scam experts here?
I just received this e-mail and I don't know what they are talking about. I called both of my credit card companies and neither of the amounts they are refering to have shown up on my account. I am NOT going to open the attachment. When I clicked on the web site it was an advertisement. They have a phone number to call, but if I call them they will ask my name--and I'm not giving them ANY info--so I'm not calling that number. I'm not going to show it--but, when I clicked on "reply" the e-mail address that they sent it to was not mine. It had my server correct, but not my name:

Sir,

We have received a notice from your card service stating that there was a chargeback made by the owner of the card that you paid for
your account with. This is a very serious matter.
I have deducted the amount of the chargeback, GBP 102.10, from your account and added our standard fee of GBP 23.95 as well. (You can
see your payment details in attachment.)

If there was some mistake, please let us know immediately so that we
can get this situation resolved. We ask that you have the chargeback
removed as soon as possible, as our account has already been debited for the amount in question.
If you would prefer to make your payment using a new payment
method that would be fine as well (you can use a different credit card or you may send a money order payable to Cihost).

This is a time sensitive issue and must be resolved promptly at the
request of the card service. Please email the billing team using the Web Administration Panel with information about how you are going
to deal with this situation.
I thank you for your time and hope to hear from you
soon.

See your payment details in attachment.

Sincerely,
Frank J. Cornwell
Cihost Billing Management

1. That's a new one. I can't say if it is a scam or not.

4. Looks like a phishing scam but
a weird one. It implies that you have a website that they are hosting. And that you paid in pounds (UK).

Even if that was true, who ends a letter like that with "thank you for your time hope to hear from you soon" ?!

9. It's a phishing scam. It's been awhile, but I've seen this scam done
before. Don't reply to it in any way.

12. Scam. Delete it.
Real financial things go through the mail, and even the email ones have identifiers that will let you know it's legitimate.

You should never click any links in emails like that.

if you think it's legitimately from a financial institution that you do business with, go to their website on your own and check your account there and see if anything has happened.

If you have a good email program, and aren't using a web-browser, your email program will show you where a link actually goes. I get a lot of these emails, many purporting to be from paypal, others from other banks i do business with, and I always look at the real location of the links just because I'm curious and I know they're fucking with me: and it's always a redirect link, or a link to a site that only has IP numbers. That is, the text might show a link to paypal like "Http://www.paypal.com/accounts/blahblahblah" but when I check what it really is, it's always something like "http://www.aol.com&redirect:link=http://www.somewebsitelocatedintunisia" or "http://154.63.182.91/emailtracking=(myemailaddress)abunchofothercodeidentiifyingwhoIam"
