an idea I'm trying to develop mainstream traction for: the gist being I'm a single guy with no intention of marrying or having children who is willing to formally and publicly renounce said institutions to all my family, friends and past and current co-workers as a thinly veiled pretense to have myself remunerated for all the money I've had to spend on gifts for the dozens of weddings and baby showers I've been obliged to attend over the years.

Of course none of you should feel obligated to come since I haven't had to attend any of your showers or weddings, but please feel free if you want to help celebrate my most happy of days by bringing me some money or a gift
