another? I'm in the middle (or, hopefully, at the end) of such a period. Here's what I did:
I moved last week, from one house to another in the same town. A whole bunch of parishioners helped. Those who were working in my den thought they were doing me a favor by setting up my desk, including placing a box of checks in easy reach. I have no idea where they found 'em, but the checks they set there were from an old account in the town where I lived 2 years ago. I thought I had destroyed all those checks.
I emptied a checkbook, and grabbed another from the box on my desk. For little less than a week, I've been writing checks willy-nilly, on a closed account. I realized my error today, and after work went from one business to another trying to correct my errors. The grocery store and Papa John's say there's nothing they can do--I'm going to hear from their collection agencies. But the Ford dealer the bread store were really very kind and understanding.
Then there's my food co-op coordinator. Ever have someone you screw up with more than any person on the planet? In general, I'm a responsible and organized adult. BUt if I'm going to be late to a meeting, or, yes, bounce a check, it'll be one involving the food co-op. The coordinator seems somewhat unpleasant with most people, just generally unhappy. But me, well, me she HATES.
So, I go to see her, explain the situation, and stand there for 10 minutes while she gives me this red-faced lecture about what a pain in her ass I am. I listened, handed her the check on the RIGHT account with extra for any service charge, and pointed out that her temper tantrum hadn't really made anything better. Wished her a good evening, and left.
I do feel like an idiot. But I've done what I can to make things better. I've also shredded the old checks. I hope this is the end of my idiot period.
Tbanks for reading!! :hi:
