Five Random Questions for a Saturday Afternoon: |
|
What would be your dream job? Mine would probably be 'professional student/teacher' I loved college, and would think it just divine to be able to spend all my time learning/teaching.
If you had to pick one favorite 'guilty pleasure' food that would be really hard to give up, what would it be? I'd have to pick cake, I think...cake with homemade chocolate frosting (none of that shit out of a can). I love cake (except for angel food; that's just ishy).
How would you describe your decorating style? Antique/eclectic/packrat would most likely describe mine best.
If you could spend a two-week vacation, all expenses paid, anywhere you wanted to, where would you go? Mine would be a tie between the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness here in Minnesota, and Paris.
If you won the lottery, to what charity would you donate first? I'd pick Habitat for Humanity...both monetarily and with time.
How about all of you??

What would be your dream job? Video game tester. Man, that would be fun. I love finding bugs and complaining about them.
If you had to pick one favorite 'guilty pleasure' food that would be really hard to give up, what would it be? Brownies. So.... good... and warm and melty. yum.
How would you describe your decorating style? The Mind of a Teenaged Girl. Posters... everywhere. But my room is rather whimsical.
If you could spend a two-week vacation, all expenses paid, anywhere you wanted to, where would you go? Walking through the mountains in India or driving through Europe.
If you won the lottery, to what charity would you donate first? Something to do with the starving kids in Africa.

cleaning so much easier! We had company last week, and my sister-in-law asked me how I keep up with all the dusting (I am a die-hard collector; I have shit EVERYWHERE) and I said, "I DON'T!!" I do a really thorough dusting of everything before I do holiday decorating (weekend after Thanksgiving) and again in spring, and some random dusting here and there between times, but mostly I just ignore it or use candles instead of lamps, and it's not so noticeable *lol*

I have gotten a whole lot worse since I started working for a building maintenance company a few years ago. I don't have any of those knick-knacky things that people dust. The closest things I have to those are lamps. Every so often I drag my furniture out in the yard and hose it all off. I have very little, like a bookshelf, and a lamp stand, and my animal cages. Thats how I dust, lol.
My parents are like you though, they have all kinds of little objects that don't do anything and they decorate for holidays too. My father has a whole wall of those model cars that you put together yourself, really nice ones, and for Christmas after he did the house decorations he bought some mini-decorations and decorated all of his little cars. It was bizarre, but it did look kind of interesting.

33. It sounds interesting! I collect cobalt glass, so I have a lot of candles |
|
in the glass pieces; I also collect old wooden alphabet blocks, and I use those year round (I keep them in bowls all over the house so I can grab what I want easily) I use them to spell out messages for the season, holiday, whatever (there has been a 'Democrats 08' in blocks in my kitchen window for a couple of years now!) I also collect globes, and I use those in my holiday decor. I put Santa hats, Hallowe'en masks, bunny ears and such on them; my grandkids think I'm pretty goofy (they're right). Also working on collecting enough old wooden yardsticks to use them for wainscoting in my laundry area and small half-bath. :-)

Cobalt glass is pretty; I googled it. I admire people who have that kind of stuff and arrange it to look nice. I don't have that "arranging things" gene. It just looks like a pile of junk no matter how I push it around. My parents collect a lot of those little things, too, like snow globes, and they decorate their house for every season and holiday. They are always moving around the furniture and changing things, which to me is bizarre. My mom once ran out of rooms to change around and went up in the attic and 'redid' (her word) her attic. I must be adopted or something.
well, I learned two new things from your post: cobalt glass and wainscoting, lol.

Dream job - the one I have only with happy help for the grunt work - rancher - can't somebody else dig holes and fix the vehicles? (disclaimer I don't dig holes now, but somebody needs to dig some, and neither the husband nor teenagers are thrilled about the task)
Hard to give up guilty food - (with real butter)
Decorating style - roadside museum ha ha
Two week vacation - expenses paid? Australia is my next travel dream, but need more than two weeks! So a couple weeks at some remote mexican beach sounds ok.
Charity - hmmm I would have to think about that, but perhaps some sort of science scholarship fund.

What would be your dream job? Caregiver/practitioner in women's health or maternal child health (actively working toward this goal). If money were no object, I'd love to start a free, preventative health clinic for women and children. My childhood dream was to work somehow in improvisational theater, but I never had any opportunities to pursue it and it is an absolute impossibility at this point in life with my responsibilities.
If you had to pick one favorite 'guilty pleasure' food that would be really hard to give up, what would it be? ice cream
How would you describe your decorating style? I'm very girly, shabby chic, but to compromise with my male partner, it ends up being more Scandinavian postmodern with girly touches.
If you could spend a two-week vacation, all expenses paid, anywhere you wanted to, where would you go? The Mediterranean- Italy, Greece, South of France. Just enjoy the food, wine, history, and culture.
If you won the lottery, to what charity would you donate first? Planned Parenthood

What would be your dream job? Running a non-profit or a disaster-aid worker
If you had to pick one favorite 'guilty pleasure' food that would be really hard to give up, what would it be? Chocolate, in all it's forms. ;)
How would you describe your decorating style? Antiques, quilts and Americana (NOT country cute!)
If you could spend a two-week vacation, all expenses paid, anywhere you wanted to, where would you go? San Juan Mountains or England, to see my sister.
If you won the lottery, to what charity would you donate first? I know it sounds selfish, but I'd take care of my family and friend's mortgages first. No one should have to worry about where to live. Then I'd create scholarships for kids like my daughter. I make just enough not to live poverty, but not enough to pay $10,000/year for college...

I'm enjoying that more than anything I've done before or since. Oh...wait...there hasn't BEEN anything since. :-)
2. I have gained quite a bit of eating self control since I started the 1500 cal/day diet the first of the year. Now I decide what I want to "spend" my calories on each day. But...chocolate ice cream with melted peanut butter poured all over it.
3. Yeah...antique (inherited family stuff) eclectic. Miz t. is very much into oriental.
4. I really don't like to travel much. I was an airline pilot for 35+ years. But...I guess Italy. Not in Rome so much as out in the countryside. For the food and the people. If there were no family considerations, I'd move there.
5. Miz t. and I have talked about that. We're pretty selfish. First we'd pay off our mortgage and our daughter's. I think she's promised a few other mortgage payoffs. ;-)
Then we'd find individuals where we could really make a difference in their lives. We've had the opportunity to do that, in a very small way for us. I can't tell you how gratifying it is to know you have helped someone in a way that has probably changed their opportunities or possible aspirations for the rest of their lives.

It gives me the mental image of Antonia Fraser doing her research on Marie Antoinette. I seem to recall she was granted access to rare documents, but with the requirement that French guards with pistols drawn (!) flanked her during the proceedings. At least that's what I remember reading in The New York Times when the book came out...

Dream job: Writing about the arts, film, etc., perhaps even a Netflix or AllMediaGuide position (Yes, I've applied). I'd also love to be a dialect coach and one of those people who knows New York accents down to the borough and the street. Or maybe I could deal in antiques and collectibles.
Guilty pleasure food? Any variation of cookies, cake, or pudding (I have to watch what I eat and generally stick to the low-fat stuff now anyway).
Decorating style: Packrat. For the time being.
Dream two-week vacation: Literary vacation in the U.K. -- Bath, Straford-on-Avon, Bradford, etc. Or I'd go to France and see the gothic cathedrals and the art galleries.
Top priority if I won the lottery: A friend who is currently in need. After that, probably UNICEF.

55. If you want some really good chocolate frosting, try this...very easy |
|
1 1/3 C. sugar 6 Tbsp. butter 6 Tbsp. milk
Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for one minute, still stirring. Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 C. semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir until melted and thick enough to spread.
I've made this even when I didn't have anything to frost, just put it in tupperware and put in fridge, then eat with a spoon...
It also makes really good hot fudge sauce for ice cream if you use it while still warm, or heat it up before use...

What would be your dream job? The one I have now, just with fewer assholes to deal with.
If you had to pick one favorite 'guilty pleasure' food that would be really hard to give up, what would it be? Barbecue.
How would you describe your decorating style? Early yard sale.
If you could spend a two-week vacation, all expenses paid, anywhere you wanted to, where would you go? Ireland and Scotland.
If you won the lottery, to what charity would you donate first? Planned Parenthood.

46. Great questions, thanks! |
|
What would be your dream job? I would love to be a self-supporting artist.
If you had to pick one favorite 'guilty pleasure' food that would be really hard to give up, what would it be? Ice cream. I could never give it up. Never!
How would you describe your decorating style? My favorite is Williamsburg colonial; but I am leaning more toward "mission style" lately. I just re-did the family room in Mission style and I love it!
If you could spend a two-week vacation, all expenses paid, anywhere you wanted to, where would you go? Europe, especially Paris, Rome, Prague and St. Petersburg.
If you won the lottery, to what charity would you donate first? I would divide it among various humane societies and rescue groups. I gave some money to several of these after Katrina. They do valuable work.

I hope to go back to it after I retire from teaching.... in a few years. Teaching just drains all the creative juices from me!

What would be your dream job? Personal assistant to the President -like Charlie Young in the "West Wing". It goes without saying that it would be to a Democratic President
If you had to pick one favorite 'guilty pleasure' food that would be really hard to give up, what would it be? Too many to name. Starbucks caramel frappacinos would be one
How would you describe your decorating style? Fairly basic
If you could spend a two-week vacation, all expenses paid, anywhere you wanted to, where would you go? Probably would have to go with DC
If you won the lottery, to what charity would you donate first? World Vision, CARE Australia or St Vincent De Paul's. Or maybe to my Church's charity

What would be your dream job?
Finally writing and directing a TV show.
If you had to pick one favorite 'guilty pleasure' food that would be really hard to give up, what would it be?
Anything chocolate.
How would you describe your decorating style?
If I had the money, it would be contemporary/modern, but nothing whacky--I love wood and woodtones, and soft greens and blues. A single antique piece showcased in a room would be great as well, with lots of texture in both the fabrics and the furnishings.
If you could spend a two-week vacation, all expenses paid, anywhere you wanted to, where would you go?
Egypt, exploring the pyramids, the Sphinx, the Valley of the Kings and Luxor, and then back to Scotland for the second week to explore castles and personal history.
If you won the lottery, to what charity would you donate first?
No-kill animal shelters to help take care of the animals, a spay and neuter program and found my own organization to help smaller shelters keep up with pet overpopulations.

Dream job - I'm already trained...an archaeologist.
Guilty food - cheese - high cholesterol and all that.
Decorating style - International. I have traveled quite a bit and have collected little trinkets from everywhere, and they are ALL on dispaly, much to my husband's Feng Shui chagrin.
Two week vacation - Machu Picchu
Charity - engineers without borders. My friend is runs the chapter at her university and they are going to build an irrigation system in a village in Kenya this fall.

73. Those are good questions |
|
1. What would be your dream job?
Running a home for abandoned or abused animals of all types. Adopting out the ones for whom homes could be found, letting the rest live in comfort for the rest of their lives.
2. If you had to pick one favorite 'guilty pleasure' food that would be really hard to give up, what would it be?
Actually, I can't think of any guilty pleasure foods I eat - I mostly eat pretty healthy stuff. But booze, that would be tough to give up.
3. How would you describe your decorating style?
Haphazard
4. If you could spend a two-week vacation, all expenses paid, anywhere you wanted to, where would you go?
Italy, for sure.
5. If you won the lottery, to what charity would you donate first?
There are several small, local (local to where I used to live in Vermont, that is) charities that helped me out during some rough times - they're always struggling and they would be the ones who got the first cut.
