The Hottest Team in Baseball: The Los Angeles Dodgers!
15 wins out of the last 16 games, including an 11 game winning streak. Greg Maddux getting back some of his classic form. Nomar Garciaparra playing for his hometown, Broxton and Saito owning the bullpen... Da Bums are BACK, and looking fine!!

6. Like I keep sayin'
I just hope they aren't peaking too soon. This 15 out of 16 came right on the heels of losing 13 of 14, so we know very well how fortunes can turn.

But, yeah — if Maddux didn't throw the game of the year today, I dunno who did. Sixty-freakin'-eight pitches in eight innings? That's inhuman. And 50 of 'em were strikes! Add Tomko and Saito with 15 each and the Dodgers threw only 98 pitches in 10 innings. In-freakin'-credible by today's standards.

It's lookin' like September's gonna be a riot in the NL West — and September is what March is all about. :bounce:

13. Oh, it's inevitable.
They'll lose a game here and there. Maybe even a series or two. There's one coming up next month that they might lose (yeah, as if. And no, I did NOT just say that). But overall, it's with them. They've got the fire, they've got the confidence, they've definitely got the ability.

I said it at the beginning of the season...October, bay-beeee. October.

ANYBODY but the Dodgers!

Alou sucks! Giants put far too much dependence on Bonds (When Bonds was injured last season, and now a year older, distracted by the steroid shit and a bad elbow) I told anyone who would listen, Bonds won't help and there's no depth, and the Giants only want to fill the stadium.

So the Giants are in last place, heartbreaking!

30. Yeah, but only 7 1/2 back
Like I said, September's gonna be a riot.

Alou needs to get Bonds the hell out of the lineup and use him as a pinch-hitter. The dude's gonna lose more games in left field than he's gonna win with a bat.

Drop the hate, though, man. I stopped hating the Giants in 1989 when my dad and I watched 'em play the Cubs in the NLCS. (He was a Giants fan and raised me on baseball.) It was about then that I realized they've got some of the best fans in the game and a classy organization.

Sports hate is silly, unless it's about the Jankees.

it been a lifetime...picking up cushions as a kid at Candlestick to get free tickets to Cubs & Reds games (undesirable teams, never sellouts at that time)...listening to every game, and Mays, oh Mays!!!

And your right on the money about Bonds, something I also told my buddies about Bonds in the field more of a hindrance than what he'll be able to do with the bat over the course of a year...I predicted maybe a 120 games...not sure where's he's at...but not enough to carry the team.

And I said he will only DH next season...with his body, age and contract...

I was saying all this shit, along with the shit I said in my above post, back in Jan. And no shit...I kept saying the Dodgers will win the division...they all laughed and said the Dodgers have no pitching...

So much for being a prophet...the Giants are still in it...nah...Maybe next year!!!!

44. I'm not sayin' they're gonna Win anything

I'm saying they've still got a good shot to be playas in the September Scuffle, and at the very least put some hurt on Arizona and the Dodgers in the final week.

But, Mays... oh, lard. I woulda paid to watch him warm up. They talk a lot these days about the Five Tools; well, he had 'em all, and he had 'em better than anybody I ever saw. Dude could be 0-for-50 (which he damned near was a few times) and still bring a crowd to its feet with a catch or a throw. Just an incredible ballplayer — the best ever, IMO.

If I were a pitcher in the '60s and '70s, when he and McCovey came up back to back, I would've suddenly gotten an exploding appendix or something. :scared:

48. I saw Mays play once!
Just once. In 1979, the year he was voted into the Hall of Fame, he was a coach with the Mets, and I lived near Norfolk, VA, where the Tidewater Tides (now the Norfolk Tides) played as the AAA team for the Mets. In June the Tides played an exhibition game against the Mets, and as a treat for the fans, Willie played!

I was 12 years old, and it was the biggest baseball thrill of my life until then. Just to see his stance at the plate, and the standing ovations he got...

He didn't get a hit, but it was no less exciting. Although I loathe the Giants on principle, I love baseball, and always respect the best players from ANY team. Mays was a class act and a brilliant player, and the Giants have had some of the best!

49. I saw him in 1966
My first big-league game. Giants had a doubleheader (!) with Houston — I think that was the first year they were the Astros, after four years as the Colt 45s — and Mays homered in each game. Bob Shaw, the Giants' skirt-chasing starter in the first game, hit one.
But, gawd, that Candlestick wind... :scared:

Back then, as now, I knew the Giants' lineup as well as I knew the Dodgers', since we could get SF games easy on KSFO (and, like I said, my dad was a Giants fan) but KFI didn't come in until after sundown from La-La Land.

I still follow both clubs — two games a day, unless they're off or playing one another, o' course. The Giants have the best announcers in the game with Kruk' and Kuip' and Jon Miller.

23. They are my AL team
I grew up on NL ball, as a Dodgers fan all my life, and I have a soft spot for the Cubs too. I moved to Seattle in 1988 when I turned 21, and for the first time, followed an AL team. I saw many team highlights in person, including Griffey's first HR on Opening Night 1989. On TV among 100's of games, I saw Jay Buhner hit for the cycle, and of course, the 1995 ALDS with the Yankees. My favorite Mariner of all-time is Edgar Martinez, and currently, Ichiro. I left Seattle in 2003, so I saw plenty of games in beautiful Safeco Field. I have a huge chunk of the Kingdome on my bookcase. :-)

And yes, I saw the Mariners when they came to both Dodger Stadium and to Anaheim this season. It was strange pulling for the Mariners as the visiting team in Anaheim (and they won!), since I was so used to seeing them as the home team. In Dodger Stadium, I pulled for the Dodgers, but applauded the Mariners and was happy anytime they did something good, and the Dodgers won the game I saw.

It's been a tough couple of years for the M's, but like the Dodgers, they are in a division with lots of parity and I won't count them out yet. :-)

28. All right!
another Edgar fan...I am torn on who my fave is, its a tie between Edgar and Bone...I liked Bone, and the specials they had, if you showed up to the kingdome, and shaved your head, you would get into the game for free, that was the good old days!

I miss Seattle ball...since 2001, the M's haven't been much of anything, they need starting pitching, and the younger pitchers just aren't coming around yet, Pinerio, franklin(all ready gone)...Meche...damn. And our Ace is Moyer, moyer was never an ace, he at best was a second man in the rotation, but more than likely a 3rd in rotation pitcher....

I have been a fan of the M's forever, my father is from Everett, and he instilled the Mariner madness into my soul...:P

54. Was flipping back and forth during the game.
It was great to see Greg Maddux back in his old form. 68 pitches for the entire game? Wow!!! I've always enjoyed watching Maddux carve up a lineup like a Thanksgiving turkey.

I caught the HR by Russell Martin in the bottom of the 10th.

64. And now... 16 out of 17!!!!
16-1 is their best stretch since relocating from Brooklyn in 1958! Ties a franchise record from 1953! :bounce:

A solid 4-2 win over Florida tonight, with Nomar hitting a HR! :toast:

68. The amazing thing is
if it's not Nomar, it's Drew. If it's not Drew, it's Kent. If it's not Kent, it's Martin. If it's not Martin, it's Betemit. Hell, it could even be Loney or somebody.
I don't worry anymore if they get two or three runs behind. And that's a really good feeling. :toast:
