There are watermelons all over the kitchen.

13. It's like clarified butter
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghee

Ghee (Hindi घी, from Sanskrit ghṛta घृत "sprinkled" Urdu ; گهى) is a type of clarified butter important in Indian cuisine and Pakistani cuisine. Ghee is made by simmering unsalted butter in a large pot, until its water has boiled off and its protein has settled to the bottom. The clarified butter is then spooned off, taking care not to disturb the milk solids on the bottom of the pan. This method of preparation gives ghee a somewhat nutty aroma that Western clarified butter does not have.

---------

It tastes cleaner than butter, and doesn't burn the same way.

7. I didn't vote
I guess technically it's margarine, but margarine= transfats and tastes like ass, and this stuff is healthy as oils go and tasty. So I wasn't sure and didn't vote.

14. Other meaning...
margarine or butter, only the latter. The former will never do.

However, for sauteeing/cooking - I use mostly grape seed oil, or for my tasty roast garlic and rosemary potatoes, I use 1/2 olive oil and half butter.

For no-heating oils, (ie a salad dressing, or in already cooked soups), I use hemp oil. :hi:

If I'm baking, butter. If I'm making a sandwich or something, some kind of spread. Country Crock or Promise or something.

If I'm using it for...

Oh. Nemmind.

30. I was WONDERING who did that!
And, for the record: there's not an edible substance
on earth that isn't better with BUTTER!

My sweetie just this evening brought home half a carribean
bean & butter tortilla for the DickSteele KitchenLab to analyze
and reverse-engineer!

Preliminary tests show that it contains beans and butter,
and that it is very yummmy!

I used marg for years until I realized it was a putrid substance. I "manage" my consumption of butter but I definitely don't skip it! It's one of the great pleasures of life IMHO.

32. Wisconsin didn't repeal its prohibition on margarine until 1967
Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 02:32 AM by herbster
We used to drive across the Wisconsin border to buy margarine. There was a time when one could not buy margarine in Wisconsin (the Dairy State, you know), so my family would buy it in Iowa and smuggle it back into Wisconsin. I still use it to make Chex mix, but otherwise- it's butter.

http://www.margarine.org/historyofmargarine.html

edit: Or maybe we'd smuggle it in from Minnesota or Michigan, I'm not sure. In any event, we were bad-ass margarine smugglers- a pound at a time.

39. I use neither.
I found no difference in my usual hamburger helper dishes...

Fortunately, I just grill up 2 cups of vegetables and broil one chicken patty; it's a healthy dietas it is.

Now if I'd only exercise more consistently...

42. Butter all the way, Baby...cooking, eating, whatever...the only thing I
don't use it for is cake mix...I always use Duncan Hines, but NOT the butter recipe. It tends to burn too easily. And I can't have burned cake under my homemade frosting!
That would NEVER do.
