6. Sorry, I meant the gall bladder question...
As my sister, the nurse always asks (re: gallbladders): Do you have the three F's (fair, fat, and 40)?

If so, you may have to have your gall bladder removed.

12. The...
The Gallbladder has been and on and off issue. I probably would have gone to the ER, but you land up waiting hours before being seen. Better to wait and call dr. in AM. The ibuprofen is helping. But I can't sleep.

Just saying that usually the Mods don't allow giving out medical advise on DU.

14. I don't think this thread sets off the "legal liability alarm".
It's not asking for any amateur diagnosis of an actual problem;
it's just raising the SUBJECT of 'amateur diagnosis' for discussion.

And, to address the OP: I have, at least once.
If it weren't for the InterNets, I might never have
known that I was autistic.

That's not exactly a 'medical' problem, I know, but it's all I got
that applies to the topic at hand.

16. there was a great post...
the other day on the boards about how dire things have become, how people need to research the internet to make sure they are getting proper care. Hey, knowledge is power, though I do get myself carried away, thinking worst case scenario.

9. Sometimes.
I'm 2 classes away from being an RN, so if there's a problem I usually just look either online or in texts to find more info to see if I need follow-up from my doctor or not.

I tend to not want to go to the doctor unless I need one (which is generally for a prescription or surgery IMHO). :hide:

23. I always do my research before seeing a doctor.
It helps because sometimes being personally informed enables me to help the doctor pin down my trouble. In fact I've used data collected on the internet (latest research, etc.) to persuade my PC physician that I was eligible for a surgery he was told I was not. I had the surgery, and it was a success. Never would have happened if I hadn't been proactive.

24. but don't you find that some docs seem to resent....
....the patient who is informed? I have five years of medical clerking in an ICU and five doing telephone triage in an internal medicine practice, and also do my research before I see a physician. In my experience, both RNs and MDs don't really like a knowledgeable patient. I'm not pushy, just informed. I ask questions. It's my body.
