Help me identify a bad movie, I forgot the title |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 10:16 AM by bleedingheart
I saw this movie about a year ago...but it is an older movie.
It was about Spanish Conquistadors...they become lost or stranded and there is this dwarf indian that takes one of them hostage...it was like an acid trip watching that movie.
But I can't remember the title...
My husband and I joke about how bad it was...but can't remember the title...
Edit: This is a foreign film, with subtitle in English. I think made in either S. America, Mexico..or perhaps Spain...not sure...but the original movie was in spanish...(I think...but then I don't know Spanish that well..)

20. to sum up Fitzcarraldo... |
|
it is about a guy who wastes money trying to build a railroad and goes broke. he is the laughing stock of the entire town...but his passion is Opera!! he wants to bring an opera house to the backwoods of Peru...so Caruso will come and sing...
So he convinces his girlfriend ( a madam of an upscale brothel) to give him all her money so that he can get into the rubber business (hahaha..but actually tire rubber) so that he can make his fortune so he can build an opera house...
He then buys an immense steamship that he fills with morons ...and they go up the wrong river so that they can avoid rapids...and then drag this steamship over the mountain so that they can then get to another river so that they can harvest the rubber on the land he bought with the brothel money...In the meantime...he uses opera music to soothe the savage headhunters...once he gets to the other side of the mountain and he is docked...he gets drunk the indians let loose his boat to sooth the river gods...and he ends up back where he started....
He sells the steamship...and the captain of the boat goes back to town to buy a velvet chair for Fitz's pig to sit in...some fine cigars ...and he then loads the boat up with a bunch of opera singers who come down the river singing Wagner...no joke....

21. If you like freaky foreign films about Spanish Conquistadores, |
|
try Werner Herzog's "Aguirre, The Wrath Of God". Herzog is the guy who directed "Fitzcarraldo (see above) and stars "Fitz"'s Klaus Kinski as the deranged Spanish soldier Don Lope De Aguirre. I can't even try to describe the film. Just watch it. You'll feel like you're going insane, right along with the rest of the characters in the film.

I will put in my netflix queue..
Has Herzog ever directed a good film??
