To make things more interesting, please give a reason why you think your choice is the most likely to secretly despise George W. Bush.

2. Well, I think his wife is more likely to despise him........ |
|
Even in a shallow marriage, the wife still knows more about the husband than anyone else.......
Can you imagine being married to *?

3. I voted for Colin Powell... |
|
I know... I know... Colin Powell is the ultimate company man, but something about the way he acts around GWB and talks about GWB makes me think he secretly hates the guy.

because one of my professors, who was connected in those circles, told me that any time you hear one of the Bush Sr. old-boys (especially Laurence Eagleberger) criticize current policy it's only done with the consent and agreement of the old man.
Kind of a way to "publicly" (within GOP-insider circles) chastise Dubya and the current BushCo without having to do it truly publicly.
Edited for grammar and speeling.

6. Grammar police, pull over! |
|
License and registration. Do you know why I pulled you over? No? Did you see that infinitive back there that you drove right through? "To despise" is one word. You're not supposed to split that infinitive verb with an adverb or anything else. "Secretly to despise" is right as is "to despise secretly". Also one may say, "to despise George W. Bush secretly."
Just a warning this time. The rule is not well known.

7. Ha! Your bogus charge won't stand up in grammar court! |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 03:55 PM by The Night Owl
The split infinitive is generally not considered to be a prosecutable offense these days. So, basically, you're an out-of-control grammar cop who needs to be pulled off the streets!

I don't imagine anyone so ambitious and conniving grows up thinking "I'd like to be a henchman." "I want to be the man behind the power someone else wields." And to have that power brandished by a bumbling, vapid twit, that's got to be galling.

if that twit is easily-manipulated, a true-believer/zealot type, and is too stupid to know he's being used, it's just like being in charge yourself. Or so I figure.
