Will someone just tell me what computer to buy? |
|
I need a laptop for a high school senior. I'm pretty computer saavy, but I'm overwhelmed by the options - enormity paralysis, even with all the drill down options that are supposed to narrow my choices. Yeah, right. I want to spend (if want is the right word), no more than $1,000. Has to have all the usual requirements. I'll probably end up buying more memory, but it should have at least 512MB to begin with. HD size probably 60GB or more, though could be less. If it were for me, I'd need at least 100GB or force myself to be more disciplined. You get the idea. I don't really care about brand, but brand is what I want - no generics or home-made.
Thanks.

Regardless of brand, GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. The cost of a replacement LCD screen alone more than makes up the price difference...

6. For the cost of the ability to run XP, the money is better spent elsewhere |
|
Like extra RAM, Microsoft Office for Mac if he wants direct compatibility, or something else.

Mine is a year old, and is approximating a paper weight these days.
I've heard good things about Toshiba.

9. MAC! I have the G5 and the MacBook. Awesome. |

I've owned a lot of Macs. I always seem to be upgrading. NEVER (knock on wood -- my head) NEVER have had a problem. Great graphics. Love the ease, the connectivity. Love my iPod.
Oh... just MAC.
