5. Oh my god, you MUST see Harold and Maude!!
It's a bizarre (but good) relationship movie, but also deals with, literally, life and death in ways no other movie I've ever seen. It's one of my favorite movies EVER.

8. Maybe one day
So far I've actively avoided it. My loss, I'm sure, but it just doesn't look like something I'd like.

9. I felt the same way until a friend of mine made me watch it.
As close to against my will as I've been with a movie--"I really don't want to see this...." I protested repeatedly, and finally just gave up and gave in. And now I wonder how on earth I went so long without seeing it.

12. I didn't like it
I tried to, because everyone I know just raves about it. BUt I found it depressing--and working too hard at its point. Kind of like Godfather III in that way (worst movie ever, btw).

24. I'm redeemed! I didn't like it either.
People seem to think I'm some kind of weirdo for not absolutely LOVING it, too, but I agree with you 100% on the working too hard part.

I find it depressing as well.

21. Harold and Maude got my vote.

And probably would have been my write-in candidate if it hadn't been listed.

Check it out, I think you'll like it. I know what you're saying though, it isn't a movie I would have chosen for myself to watch. I watched it only because a much-cooler-than-I friend suggested we watch it (he had seen it before) so I went along with it. One of my favorite movies now, too.

37. I didn't like H&M, never will. Didn't want to see it in the first
place. It seemed entirely too pleased with itself, pretentious, preening, overreaching.

Probably didn't help that when I got home, there was a message from my mom that my grandmother had died.

31. You're thinking of Bill Pullman.
That's a sweet movie, and as much about falling in love with a family as it is about falling in love with another person.

But it's Adam Rib that got my vote. It's about a marriage of equals, a dynamic, sexy relationship.

I haven't seen Don't Look Now, Ship of Fools, or Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, but I can recommend the others for your viewing pleasure. Anything that makes the classics list (e.g., It Happened One Night) or cult favorites (Harold and Maude) or is universally invoked for its romance (An Affair to Remember)is on those lists for a reason.

6. I don't watch romantic movies
unless a significant portion of it contains double-wielded Silverballers or Uzis. And slow mow. And round house kicks to the head.

But if I had to pick the best romance, I would pick Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in Fast and the Furious. Lol..check out the trailer to the Fast and the Curious

16. I was tempted to include that, but decided it wasn't romantic. They fought
too much - if you hit a person, you do not love that person, and you never loved that person, in my book anyway.

22. its all up to intrepretation...
no couple is perfect, to me the relationship between Jack/Ennis was real, it wasn't some fantasy movie, like some date movies can be. The tension to me was was real, and their little moments together, while fishing, and hunting, riding horses were romantic to me at least. I nave never seen a connection like that, in any other date/relationship movie.

And to put on top of that, them hiding who they are while living double lives, and dealing with other real world tension...

25. I think it was a one-sided relationship though. Jack loved Ennis, and was
(SPOILER) willing to waste 20 years of his life trying to get a commitment from him, to no avail. But Ennis never loved Jack, and his tears at the end were not tears of love but tears of regret for not having loved. Even in their last scene together they still disagreed and fought - most couples, after 20 years, have worked out their problems, or they aren't together any more. So this was a terribly dysfunctional, one-sided relationship that really had no chance. Jack should have left as soon as Randall came along. That's my interpretation anyway.

29. Okay...:)
I see it differently, I believe they both loved each other greatly, and fought...its not a conventional woman/man relationship, its a man/man relation, and men do have different ways in which they treat one another. I don't put much emphasis in their fighting, because to me, its normal, I see men fighting a lot, like they did(without the intimacy of course), and then whammo they are best friends, or grow from that experience. In my experience, some of the best friendships I have had, were born of violence. My friend Jason, my best friend bar none, before we were friends, he would bag on me, and then we fought physcially, and after the fight a bond was forged, and we have been friends ever since.

But its nice discussing movies, and other aspects, kudos!...:)

33. Harold and Maude!
Everyone should at least befriend a "Maude" at some point in their lives. It's the only way to grow, spiritually.

Great Cat Stevens tunes, too...

If you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
'Cause there's a million things to be
You know that there are...

35. Before Sunrise/Before Sunset - Ethan Hawke/Julie Delpy
Jesse and Celine were meant for each other and it was a random event that got them together and they found real love.
Sunset catches up with them 9 years later and although their lives have taken different paths, they find that their love is still there and still real.
It made this big guy cry like a little bitch.

45. Well, I hope they do get themselves around to seeing some of these,
I personally think the older movies (1939-1969) have better stories than most movies Hollywood puts out now. The acting, photography, editing, music, even the script and dilalog can be good - everything is good these days except the actual story being told. 90% of the stories are dumb and contrived, unless they were adapted from a good book, play or short story. But 30 to 60 years ago the stories were routinely good.
