The sun is really white, but the blue light gets scattered out by the atmosphere. The scattered blue light makes the sky look blue, and meanwhile the sun looks yellowish with some of its blue removed. This is of course also why the sun looks red at sunrise and sunset - at these times the sunlight has to pass through even more air to reach us, so even more blue is scattered out, leaving it looking red.
