I just renewed my ACLU membership. |
|
And now, once again, I get to be a liberal, card carrying member of the ACLU Democrat. :-)

6. I have to remember to do that... |
|
I had to let my ACLU membership lapse when I lost my job.
Now that I have a job again...back to being "a civil libertarian, commie dirtbag, bad democrat who loves neo-nazis and gays more than America." (Quote is an undisclosed family member) What is so hard for people to grasp about civil rights only being as strong as the weakest upholding of those rights?
Being anti-ACLU is being anti-American.
Part of what makes America great is that even a scumbag like Bob Barr gets that.

And may I also suggest you join;
Amnesty International People For The American Way Human Rights Campaign and NORML
Then you got all your bases covered! :-)
I used to suggest MADD, but they seem so right wing any more. Though, I have seen people, especially young people, do things while drunk that were bad enough to make me wonder if prohibition had it right on that. It goes way beyond the obvious danger of drunken driving. I knew one young lady who got drunk at a party and slept with a stranger and it destroyed her marriage totally. And she didn't even remember doing it the next day! So sad.

8. MADD is some good people when you need to see someone get straight. |
|
I had a friend who just had a run-in with MADD. (To be clear, she needed to have this run-in.) After her 4th DUI arrest, they showed up to court every day of her trial and hearings, submitted briefs, and made it very clear that their POV was that she needed to go to jail or else they'd make it the highest-profile DUI case in history...as a result, her plea deal for probation fell apart and she's doing 5 months with required detox, AA attendance, 6 years suspended licence and she has to either make a donation to MADD to cover their expenses for pursuing her or volunteer an equal amount of in-kind hours.
I'm guessing the next time she gets drunk and nearly kills someone she won't think it's as funny as she thought it was this time, prior to MADD showing up to court.

11. Unfortunately, I did. |

I do belong to HRC. :-)
I should join NORML and People for the American Way. I do enthusiastically support both organizations.

9. We Always Renew In July... And In January We Renew Our HRC Membership. |
|
But still... BOTH organizations spend about $10.00 (each) in postage trying to get me to "renew early" or to try and convince me to donate even MORE.
Sometimes I wonder if my membership money is being used ONLY for the purpose of aggressively begging me for MORE money. But... I guess most all organizations are like that.

10. HRC calls me ALL the time. |
|
I assume that by "we" you don't include the mites that live in the roots of your eyelashes? Do you have a registered Domestic Partner? I work for Motorola, and were I lucky enough to have a Domestic Partner at this point in my life, medical benefits would accrue!

12. HRC is VERY aggressive in their membership solicitations. |

HRC seems unusually aggressive. I've gotten the mail and phone calls asking me to renew my membership.

I can only IMAGINE how it would feel were I a closeted married (to a woman) man to have them calling all the time at home!
