a) I've spent a lot of time there so it did look familiar

8. I'm glad I did too
The sign in question warns against attempting to hike from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River and back in one day. I made it just fine; must have been the energy boost I got from all the cigarettes I smoke

Death in Yellowstone is also good, especially the gruesome first chapter about deaths in hot springs.

14. I've heard about that
My wife saw it in the gift shop while I was doing my hike. Just for the record I was never close to death. However, by the end of the hike I was stopping to rest every hundred yards or so and relying on strangers for water . . . and then the hallucinations set in.
