All the girls love Alice
From Goodbye Yellow Brick Road shocked me the first few times I heard it.
I grew up in a white bread community and stuff like that just wasn't discussed, in public anyway ;)
I was in my mid teens when it came out so I wasn't naive but this was a little over the top for me.

So my question, is there a song, that when you heard it for the first time shocked you because of its content?

Btw I love this album, I think everyone should have it in their library. And I'm not shocked anymore

Another one that shocked me but for a different reason was D.O.A. by Bloodrock

1. Great song and a fantastic album!
Raised to be a lady by the golden rule
Alice was the spawn of a public school
With a double barrel name in the back of her brain
And a simple case of Mummy-doesn't-love-me blues

Reality it seems was just a dream
She couldn't get it on with the boys on the scene
But what do you expect from a chick who's just sixteen
And hey, hey, hey, you know what I mean

All the young girls love Alice
Tender young Alice they say
Come over and see me
Come over and please me
Alice it's my turn today

All the young girls love Alice
Tender young Alice they say
If I give you my number
Will you promise to call me
Wait till my husband's away

Poor little darling with a chip out of her heart
It's like acting in a movie when you got the wrong part
Getting your kicks in another girl's bed
And it was only last Tuesday they found you in the subway dead

And who could you call your friends down in Soho
One or two middle-aged dykes in a Go-Go
And what do you expect from a sixteen year old yo-yo
And hey, hey, hey, oh don't you know

I don't know if it was ever a hit in the USA, but in Canada it was huge. The name of the band was Rough Trade and it was pretty shocking for it's time. 1980 or 81 if I remember correctly.

Q

High School Confidential

He's a cool blond scheming trick
You want him so much
You feel sick
The boy can't help it
He really can't help it now
Teenage brandos stalk him in the halls
They tease him with cat calls
He's a combination

High School Confidential

What's that man doin with him
It's that guy
And he's screwin with him
Can he feel the sex and sweat
He makes you cream your jeans
So you won't forget

High School
High School Confidential
High School
High School Confidential

He drives a loaded jeep
With seats in the back
If you don't do him soon
You'll have a heart attack
When he flashes you a look
You wanna burn his books
Give up high school

Well well well well

4. "Sweet Pain" by Kiss
I was 13. I slowly figured out what the song was about and was like "oh, my goodness! Pain is mean and bad!" So naive back then, in some ways.

8. I was somewhat surprised when someone told me that
the Steely Dan song "Ricky Don't Lose that Number" was about a gay kid and that's what the lyric references when he says "Ricky don't lose that number/It's the only one you own/You might use it if you feel better/When you get home."

Like he's met someone else who is also gay and who has given him his number...I don't know how true that is and I can't find the lyrics online right now for whatever reason, so I don't know.

10. me neither
I can't believe I can't find the stupid lyrics, which means I have the title wrong or have it spelled wrong or something. I wish there was a Steely Dan fan around who could say one way or the other. If that is what is meant by it, then it's really touching.

11. Found the lyrics.
Yeah, I can definitely see it being about a gay kid.

RIKKI DON'T LOSE THAT NUMBER
We hear you're leaving, that's OK
I thought our little wild time had just begun
I guess you kind of scared yourself, you turn and run
But if you have a change of heart
CHORUS:
Rikki don't lose that number
You don't wanna call nobody else
Send it off in a letter to yourself
Rikki don't lose that number
It's the only one you own
You might use it if you feel better
When you get home

I have a friend in town, he's heard your name
We can go out driving on Slow Hand Row
We could stay inside and play games, I don't know
And you could have a change of heart

CHORUS

You tell yourself you're not my kind
But you don't even know your mind
And you could have a change of heart

CHORUS

12. r-i-k-k-i
that's why it wouldn't come up. Thanks so much!

Holy SHIT:

You tell yourself you're not my kind
But you don't even know your mind
And you could have a change of heart

WOW. I'm blown away. I guess it is thus. Man, how touching.
