Tim Gunn defends Allison, questions the judges |
|
http://www.salon.com/ent/col/fix/2006/08/17/thu/index.html?source=rssThe Gunn report: The genius of Tim Gunn isn't limited to his refreshingly blunt performance on "Project Runway" -- he also keeps an official blog on the show's Web site, where he frequently disagrees with the judges' decisions (spoiler alert ahead). After Alison was booted on Wednesday night, he defended her losing look, which was made out of manila paper: "Her design was an origami and sculptural masterpiece, in my opinion. Foolish me, I thought she could win. Neither of us anticipated that the asymmetry of the design would bug the judges ... Chacun à son goût. It's a matter of taste. Alison, we will miss you more than I can adequately express." Then, describing Angela's crappy get-up, he writes: "It was all so basic. And it looked like an elementary school craft project for a production of 'Camelot' to boot. But Angela's still in: Chacun à son goût." (Bravo)

1. This really was the worst decision in Project Runway history. |
|
Alison clearly has talent and didn't design the worst dress for that challenege. I can think of two other designers who should have been gone ages ago. *cough*ANGELAVINCENT*cough*

Ziggy Stardust ensemble, Ziggy would not be pleased and Vincent is just damn creepy, i don't really want to know what turns him on.

3. Angela has the design aesthetic of a cooky teenager... |

none of her stuff shows any sort of maturity as a designer. And the only reason her design won the Macy's competition was because of LOTS of imput from Michael and Laura.

5. I thought Alison's design was beautiful... |
|
I noted the origami work that Tim did and thought it was wonderful. If she'd had a wasp-waisted model, I think it would have totally flown. Gunn was dead on with his observation.

6. First Malan, now Alison... |
|
So, is the goal of this season's Project Runway to eliminate one by one all the obviously talented people until only Vincent is left?

7. If Malan had talent he would have finished the bottom of that dress |
|
I mean, the dress wasn't very attractive but I don't think it would have been the worst if he had just finished the hem. Perhaps Angela would have gotten the boot that week

9. Execution and craftsmanship has little to do with talent. |
|
Project Runway judges should be looking for talent and originality, not technical competence.

10. You have to have the basics for sewing |
|
He should have allowed extra length on the end until he fitted his modeled and then did a quick hem to the bottom.

8. I love Tim Gunn and we'll miss Alison |
|
Jeffrey and Vincent make me want to hurt something. Of course, the "PR" producers'll keep them around to the bitter end for ratings, just like in previous seasons.
I was very unhappy with Heidi Klum's comments re: "plus sized models" last night, and yeah, I've already written to Bravo on the subject. I typically find her a delight, so I was more than a bit confused with their insistence that Alison's model was "zaftig" -- in what universe?
