Well, I've not had a cigarette in over a week |
|
I got through the third day stress attacks and now am having no real trouble not smoking. It's nice not reeking like an ashtray.

Nothing is a greater turnoff than a guy who smells like cigarettes. That, and the fact that he's probably going to die hacking his lungs out at an early age.
Really, congratulations. It isn't easy.

... it gets easier as time goes on. Eventually you'll discover that you cease to have physical cravings for nicotine, but you'll continue to have psychological "cravings". They only last a minute or two, and with some deep breathing exercises and other relaxation techniques they are also easy to overcome. (Eventually they become less and less intense and they come along less and less frequently.)
Good luck!!!

Of course, the greatest challenge is NOT SMOKING WHEN DRINKING. That's when you're judgement is poor and you REALLY want a smoke.

15. Yes Indeed!!! You Have To Learn To AVOID Those Situations... |

... and activities where you would "automatically" associate smoking cigarettes. I didn't go to a bar for about a year after quitting smoking. I also started to drink MUCH less coffee in the mornings (because coffee and cigarettes went together... but not MIXED together in the coffee)
My first long airline flight as a non-smoker was really great too. Much more relaxing and NOT having to worry about finding the "smoker's lounge" or dashing outside to have a smoke and THEN having to spend an extra 20-30 minutes trying to come back through security.
How much were you spending per day on cigarettes? Have you done the math to figure out how much you'll save the first year? What ELSE would you do with a pile of money like that? (Of course that assumes you would be able to SAVE that much every day... and NOT spend your daily savings on an extra gallon of gas or a Starbuck's coffee.)

I'm into my 3rd week, and have only had 1 small setback that lasted about 4 puffs. I wanted to see if I really missed the nic, or if it was the habit. I expected to feel a big relief, but it never came. I feel I have this smoking thing licked. Hope you feel the same.

You're doing brilliantly.
The hardest part is done, you just need to keep aware of the occasional twinges and beat them one-by-one.

I know how tough it is. I've been smoke-free for a couple of years...after nearly 30 years of smoking! It's not easy...but it's worth it.
Hang in there...the hardest part is over!

I quit three or four years ago after a dozen years of a pack a day.
Believe me, it's worth the struggle.
Continued success, HEyHEY!
