Just learned about a new made-up word, "freegan." |
|
Some sort of very loose organization of those who go dumpster-diving.
I guess "garbage eater" was taken by those who go to fast-food franchise places. :-)

Freegan, as you may have guessed, is a combination of free and vegan. The problem is that most freegans are omnivorous or ovo-lacto vegetarians of some sort and very very few are commited vegans. I have a hard enough time telling people what the hell being vegan is about without some lameass trustafarian assholes confusing the issue. Anyhow, I think it's bullshit for people with the capacity to support ethical businesses and use thier money as a tool for change to live off of resources that real poor people and groups like Food Not Bombs (which has a long history of diving and gleaning) can use.

who don't need the stuff they scavenge must also have been taken.
I loathe them...they remind me of a girl I knew in college who dropped out to be voluntarily homeless while sitting on a $1M trust fund which she had no problem tapping regularly to have drinking money and nice clothes to go clubbing on friday nights.
Coincidentally, the technical, scientific and anthropological term for a person who eats garbage by choice is purgophage. From the latin root "purgamentum" (trash) and the greek suffix "-phage" (eater of)
