Poll question: Bon Scott or Brian Johnson?
The AC/DC question of the ages. Explain your choice.

1. Love both, but
have to go with Bon Scott for nostalgic purposes.

2. Voted for Johnson...
Edited on Fri Aug-18-06 11:07 AM by southpaw
I've just always preferred his voice to Bon Scott's. Besides, my fave AC/DC albums feature Johnson on vocals: For Those About To Rock and Back in Black.

7. Bon wrote better lyrics
I think they had better songs with him.

9. I'll debate Pink Floyd minutia all day long, ok...
but I don't even call myself an AC/DC fan, much less an AC/DC purist. The subtle lyrical stylings of 'Big Balls' vs. 'Given the Dog a Bone' hardly merit consideration.

4. Bon
I was surprised to see the results so far. But I guess I really didn't listen to much AC/DC after Bon died.

20. Coincidentally
"sucks, blows, bites the big one" are all titles of songs on their next album. :)

6. Bon Scott
AC/DC was the first band I ever saw in concert. They opened for Aerosmith in 1978. I saw them in Spokane, WA while they were on their Powerage tour.

What an awesome show!!!Bon Scott and Angus at the top of their game.

I've only seen them once, with Johnson, but I think Scott would have been better.

10. I prefer Jonson's style
so much intensity and passion. much better than all these cookie monster singers in metal today. Ironically Scott is the one who discovered Johnson in a bar and told the band how great he was.

11. Bon. Definitely Bon.
To give him credit, though, Brian Johnson really gave that band a shot in the arm on "Back in Black," but his voice is torn to pieces now. That, and the fact that the last 7 AC/DC albums have sounded the same (not that they were ever about radical departues in the first place.)

12. You always know what you're going to get with them.
I too wish they would mix it up a bit, but I still enjoy the albums.

15. Bon Scott
I'm not a very big AC/DC fan to begin with, but I've never really learned to appreciate Brian Johnson's vocals. In fact, the AC/DC songs I do like probably have more to do with the music than the sound of either vocalist. So I was tempted to vote for option three, but having never seen RA's ass I thought that might be a bit presumptuous on my part. haha

Listen to "Ride On" and try to envision Brian Johnson singing it. It just doesn't work.

EDIT: Even then, Brian Johnson was one of the better replacement singers in the history of rock.

18. Brian Johnson
But only because Bon Scott's voice isn't holding up well due to the fact that he is dead. If he were still alive I would go with Bon but that might only be because we wouldn't know who Brian Johnson is. Plus Brian tends to be better at singing Bon's song's than Bon is at singing Brian's songs. Of course that goes back to the Bon being dead thing.

But one thing is indisputable and that is that Bonham is superior to Moon.

19. OMG NO!
Keith Moon is far the better drummer than Bonham! They should face-off in a battle of the drummers but it probably won't be so impressive since they are dead.

21. Damned Drunken Drummers...
While Moon was indeed a great drummer Bonham was better. But I think we can all agree that neither holds a candle to the late great Eric "Stumpy Joe" Childs.

23. Bon Scott. Hands down.
I respect Brian Johnson for keeping the band going for 20+ years, but every album they have made sounds the same. You can't say that about the first six albums with Bon. Each of them had it's own sound and each was great in its own way.

This is the real Ac/Dc....

I didn't think anyone could take over for Bon, but Brian sure fit in nicely. Love them both.

25. regardless of how good your ass might be
Bon Scott was a better singer, had a better voice, and to boot he had a lot of personality. The only reason to listen to AC/DC IMHO.

26. Bon Scott and pretty easily.
Though Back in Black is AC/DC's best album all the rest of the best were done by Bon and he wrote BiB too. Scott was the king of sleaze rock. He could make the most innocent sentence sound salacious. A true legend.

R.I.P.

But I will say that Bon Scott was a master of double entendre: "Big Balls," "The Jack," etc.

30. I'm pretty neutral on the matter...
...each has his good points as well as bad.

Johnson's voice went noticeably downhill by 1988, but then one wonders what Scott would have sounded like had he survived long enough to get old and have his voice start going inevitably down the crapper.
