Dammit, I need a new office chair...
This one's uncomfortable, and I have to get up and walk around every 30 minutes or so to keep the circulation going in my behind. :yoiks: I've even tried a pillow and another cushion, but they don't work.

Any recommendations for a comfortable ergonomic office chair that won't make my butt go to sleep? Thanks in advance.

I just bought it, and I think my back doesn't like it very much...x(

(that's what happens when you go cheap...)

2. I've had this one for a while, and it's never been really comfortable...
...but lately, it seems to have gotten much worse. Sorry yours sucks too. :(

12. Thanks, hon
It's my own fault...I can't afford to buy a $200 chair, but thought I could get away with the cheapest I could find.

If I would have spend $20 more, I would have had a more comfortable one.

You just need someone to give you a good ass massage! ;-)

8. I Have A Great Chair
The Aeron chair designed by Herman Miller. They're not cheap, but well worth the coin. $700.00 and up depending on the bells and whistles you want. Best investment I ever made because I have chronic back problems. Do a Google search to find a dealer near you if you are interested in one. You won't regret it if you buy one, particularly if you spend alot of time at a desk like I do. Here's a pic:

20. Well NWC,
If you can write it off as a business expense, go for it. I didn't have to do that. I just had to produce a medical certificate and my employer bought one for me.

17. Massage
can help ease that gluteal numbness...

As for a chair, though, that's a little tougher. I used to have a black leather one that I got from Costco for about $100 (took it overseas and, darn it, left it there when I returned) that worked for me, but I know it can take a lot of sitting on chairs in various office-supply stores before you find the one that works. Everyone is different enough that I think it's probably hard to recommend a specific brand or to avoid that sitting-on-a-thousand-chairs-in-a-hundred-stores ordeal and choice of a good chair, when you spend a good deal of time ensconced in it and need to be productive during that time, is too important to shortcut. Good luck! :hi:

21. Another volunteer?
:* :hi:

Thanks, FG. I'm just gonna have to take the tush test on a bunch of chairs and see how they do. I've gotten some good suggestions from other DUers, and I think I'll go to an office supply store (NOT Office Depot, but a REAL office furniture store) and see what they have.

24. Actually, my specialty is backs and necks,
but I could go lower in the interest of altruism, justice, and the American Way. :-)

Yeah, good idea with the office furniture store. Inevitably, whether searching for chairs or office furniture et al., we always ended up at the warehousey office furniture place -- prices were usually good, too, but the main attraction was greater diversity of choices and generally sturdier products. Also, of course, the staff therein tended to actually know something about their products. I got lucky at Costco, though, and I loved that chair, though I was always less picky in such things than was my wife (she had back problems, but tended toward uber-choosy on top of that).

31. The Aeron

Yes, it's expensive. But it's the last office chair you'll ever buy. And if you use it for work, you might get to write it off. Check around the internets for discounts.

32. I'm riding
a six year old Van Buren from Office Depot.
It was $250.00 then.
I've had to change the wheels, but the chair itself soldiers on.
I'm a big guy and use the chair a lot.
I'd have to recommend it.

33. Don't play games. Get a Girsberger.
This is the chair I have...a low-back Trilax.

http://www.girsberger.com/cgi-bin/flexi050708?ID=ssyYFtRHZmQAACCsgPYAAAAF&Q=&S=0:1:75::87:2:::1::&P=&MT=main&B=bilder/buero/buero-drehstuehle/trilax/usa_trilax_02_2_l.jpg&POS=1

I tried the Aeron and the Steelcase Leap before I bought this, and never could get really comfortable with either one.

One thing you NEED to know about Girsbergers: they're designed by Europeans for Europeans, and their designers subscribe to the European view that if a seating surface is to be comfortable at the end of the day, it's got to be hard as a fucking rock at the start of the day. My wife won't sit in this chair. She says it's way too hard for her. My sister sat in the chair one time and bought her own.

They're also slightly hard to buy--it's a contract manufacturer.
