Is there an agency available for someone who is addicted to drugs? |
|
A friend of mine's cousin is addicted to crack and continues to sell off her valuables (including food). She is around 30 and is what you call "slow". She is not capable of taking care of herself. Both of her parents are deceased but have an aunt that lives on the east coast. She refuses to go live with the aunt. The only reason she has a house to live in because it was owned by her parents. I was wondering if anyone knew where this woman can be sent to, maybe something like a shelter.

1. Have your friend call Social Services to do a check on her. |
|
It should become very obvious that she can't live alone and social services will be able to place her.

if possible, get her to another town. Away from all her usual influences.
I wish you and her the best. This can be a long term and difficult problem, but not insurmountable.

2. check with the local health department. Our county has a residential |
|
rehab run by the county. It has a long wait list, but it's pretty well run.

5. you might could get her in detox if it's an emergency |
|
it's up to them who they take and who they don't. But then it's probably best in her case to go to treatment after unless she's willing to live in NA meetings for the next 30 days, which she probably isn't.
