"Hollywoodland" is about the death of "Superman" George Reeves |
|

Way cool, Adrian Brody as a detective investigating the death of George Reeves, who played Superman in the fifties t.v. show, and Ben Afleck plays George.
I was about 7 when this happened and have always wished someone would make a movie about it, it's long been assumed George killed himself with a gun, but murder has always been suspected.
My mom told me one day Superman had killed himself, and I freaked. I believed him to be real, and I believed him to be impervious to bullets. She explained that there was no real superman, but an actor playing him. My world was shattered and it was my first experience with mortality.
Soon after I lost faith in Santa too, and have been a total mental wreck ever since, unable to function, merely drooling in the corner and making odd noises.

1. I saw the promo late last night. |

I too am surprised that no movie was made about this sooner. I definitely plan to see it. When I was little (60's) it was already in reruns but still very popular with us kids. I remember my older sister telling me one day that George Reeves had killed himself because he thought he really was Superman and tried to fly! I believed that for the longest time. My sister was and still is a big BS'er!

4. Somebody told me, too, that George Reeves died jumping off a building |
|
An urban myth that apparently got around.

I believe there was a raucous party going on and somebody heard a shot, and it was ruled suicide cause George had been despondant and boozing it up and arguing.
Ex girlfriends and jealous boyfriends have always been suspects.

quite a bit in the Look Up in the Sky, documentary that came out this past june...it was a documentary about the creation, storylines, myth of Superman through the ages...it was pretty good, but I'm a supes fan...I learned quite a bit, and there are some incarnations of superman, that I'm glad have died by the hard goodbye...
There was on incarnation, where the whole superman mythos was played by people dressed up in Doggy outfits...and then Superman the Musical...enough to make me :puke:

they also go through that on the documentary as well. Singer said, he used a smaller S emblem in Superman Returns, because of the Fleischer cartoons. I like the new Justice League cartoons...very good, a lot better than what I'm use to seeing for superman aka Super Friends....

I just saw a preview for this the other day...funny story though, when Kevin Smith was in charge of the Superman Reborn/Lives script, he was going to cast Ben Affleck as Superman...coincidence?

9. Why was George Reeves cast as Superman? |
|
He looked like a potbellied eunuch! It never made sense to me even as a little kid watching the old reruns.

10. Superman's physique was |
|
inspired by the strong man from circus shows...most strong men from that era, where ...built much like how George Reeves was, or Michael Landon, broad chested. I do believe, later on in his career, he didnt keep in shape, but the first few years, he was in shape...plus, Reeves was one snappy Clark Kent...:)
