2. Lovable creatures. Can't vote with your choices:) |

I used to have some, in a cage as wide as my living room. Quickly I decided that they shouldn't be kept at all. They want to run and skip and need LOTS of room for that. They are very social creatures who live in large communities, where individuals are specialized - they have architects and babysitters and what not. Cruel to keep them in cages.

I had quite a few..and they are extremely intelligent. Besides having a large aquarium style "cage" for them, I also had a running "ball" that you could put them in so they could run all over the place and not get lost.....or eaten by my enormous cat. They were perfect for my cat. They kept him entertained while I was at work and they didn't make a mess of things. Once I had children, I stopped bringing gerbils home. I was afraid the kids would let them lose in the house...by accident, of course. That would have been a bad idea since my first cat was a psycho hunter/killer....but he loved us. :D

6. Used to have them as a kid |
|
They'd come to me after I'd let them loose and called their names.
I had a couple of them live to 5 years...apparently quite a ripe old age in gerbil years. Gawd knows, with all the stupid stuff I fed them (one was partial to fried eggs, steak and pizza...)
