Back from my niece's wedding...........
20 and she's found her life's partner. No wonder I have a headache.

I'm happy for HER.....didn't catch the bouquet....it was coming right at me but one of my niece's friends jumped in front of me. Beotch. ;)

It was a nice casual affair. BBQ, corn on the corb (out in the country!)........

very christian oriented. Didn't quite agree with the minister's choice of bible passages (submission, er......) but it wasn't stressed THAT much. Bride and Groom both seem like really good, honest kids, just don't want my niece ( a very strong character) to have to become submissive. Bit of a bible belt where they live, but all the people were very sincere and kind, so that's a bonus.

I just feel a little down because with all the nice things her friends and new family were saying about her just makes me miss all the times I could have had with her but didn't due to a complicated family situation. I always knew her to be very special since she was a baby. :)
She's really a loving, sweet woman now.

Just some thoughts....

1. I played for a conservative christian wedding on Sat...
Lots of hoo-ha about ribs and women being submissive... :puke:

I'm glad your niece is happy. :-)

3. I went to a wedding this summer of two hip, progressive people.
We were SHOCKED when they read the Bible bullshit about the rib, woman the helpmate, all that complete garbage. The bride isn't even religious! Bad sign she didn't overrule the choice of readings ... :scared:

4. Maybe the wedding was to appease fundy relatives...
Sometimes people are perfectly happy without all the ceremonial stuff...

6. Well, they are christians.......
at least she didn't promise to obey, but her having to agree that he's the leader or should be the leader of the home struck a raw nerve with me.
Maybe that's why I'm not married.....I don't want my independence taken away....I want a partnership of equals.

Silly me. :eyes:

2. These things can be bittersweet sometimes.
I'm glad that you were able to still see the little girl that you found to be so special.

:)

5. I want her to have a career as well......
He's going back to school, but what about her?

When she was little she wanted to be a scientist. Then it was a pilot(?)
Nothing wrong with dedicating your life to the Lord, it's just......I don't know.......just an old feminist minded aunt not wanting her niece to have any regrets. :(
But what do I know. :(

9. DK, your niece is only 20 and you
never know she may go to school or pursue something that interests her after her husband has completed his studies.

What she is now is not what she'll be even when she's 30, let alone 40.

Just let her know your door and heart are open for her whenever she needs you.

7. I attended my grandson's wedding last week.
It was just a little civil ceremony in a courthouse, I was only there because they needed a witness. They were basically eloping. But it ended up being the nicest wedding I can remember. The bride does volunteer work at a local old folks home. Turns out the judge's parent lived there and the judged recognized her by name and glowing reputation. A year or so ago the courthouse started performing gay marriages and were shut down by higher courts. They decided to boycott all marriages in protest but I guess they had to give in at some point. Still, the ceremony was very inclusive and the judge went on about how marriages were about the love of two people, and not about the law. Take that, Republicans. Oh, but it was a beautiful ceremony, in a wonderful old historic building. Even the groundskeeper came up as we were leaving and presented the bride with a bouqet of roses he had just cut from the grounds.

Damn, they grow fast.
