I'm watching Apocalypse Now for the 100th time |

approximately. It's the new version with scenes that weren't in the original.

I've got the Redux version but have yet to watch it -- I was annoyed that they released it right after I got the regular release, though I'm probably just as happy I got the version as I first saw it, too.
When I first saw the film it was the early days of VHS and I rented it and watched it three times over that night's rental period. By the third time I could finally understand what Marlon Brando was saying, but I think that many consecutive viewings permanently altered my mind. For sure, I started to get a bit worried after watching it umpteen times two decades later when I moved to a certain island nation (for the first six months of my time there all I had were the contents of two suitcases and I only had two DVDs packed to go with my luggage, and no TV...watched it on a computer, over and over), especially when my time on that island turned out to be a little too close to a heart of darkness...
The horror.

3. Saw it in the movie theater like three times when it first came out |
|
six months later I was in FT. Benning for basic training. I think I got through it by making believe I was in the movie.Never smelled napalm in the morning.

I think I only made it to the thirty-some mark, maybe forty times. Hats off to you!

6. Have you ever seen the documentary "Hearts of Darkness"? |
|
It shows what Coppola went through to make the movie...it's amazing the film was ever completed.

it had to be a difficult movie to make. Didn't Martin Sheen have a heart attack during filming?

8. I've seen the original maybe 25 times. And "Redux" just once. |
|
I think it was better without the extra scenes; except I finally got to see the Playmates gettin' nekkid!
But the part where Kilgore tries to get his surfboard back..that was just stupid.
In the original, we don't see Willard stealing the board, we just notice it later strapped to the PBR. I had always just thought Kilgore had given it to Lance as a gift.
