Why did you pick your DU screenname?
I picked Breeze because of that old song, "They Call Me the Breeze"! ;)

http://www.lyricsfreak.com/l/lynyrd+skynyrd/call+me+the+breeze_20086063.html

Lynyrd Skynyrd

"Call Me The Breeze"

By j.j. cale

Call me the breeze
I keep blowin down the road
Well now they call me the breeze
I keep blowin down the road
I aint got me nobody
I dont carry me no load

Aint no change in the weather
Aint no changes in me
Well there aint no change in the weather
Aint no changes in me
And I aint hidin from nobody
Nobodys hidin from me
Oh, thats the way its supposed to be...

1. Mine is a song also.
Testify by Rage Against the Machine

The movie ran through me
The glamour subdue me
The tabloid untie me
I'm empty please fill me
Mister anchor assure me
That Baghdad is burning
Your voice it is so soothing
That cunning mantra of killing
I need you my witness
To dress this up so bloodless
To numb me and purge me now
Of thoughts of blaming you
Yes the car is our wheelchair
My witness your coughing
Oily silence mocks the legless
Now traveling in coffins
But on the corner
The jury's sleepless
We found your weakness
And it's right outside our door

Now testify

With precision you feed me
My witness I'm hungry
Your temple it calms me
So I can carry on
My slaving sweating the skin right off my bones
On a bed of fire I'm choking on the smoke that fills my home
The wrecking ball rushing
My witness your blushing
The pipeline is gushing
While here we lie in tombs
While on the corner
The jury's sleepless
We found your weakness
And it's right outside your door

Now testify

Mass graves for the pump and the price is set

Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now controls the past
Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now?

Now testify

3. More lyrics...
Bruce Springsteen
No Surrender

We busted out of class had to get away from those fools
We learned more from a three-minute record than we ever learned in school
Tonight I heart the neighborhood drummer sound
I can feel my heart begin to pound
You say you're tired and you just want to close your eyes and follow your dreams down

We made a promise we swore wed always remember
No retreat, believe me, no surrender
Like soldiers in the winters night with a vow to defend
No retreat, believe me, no surrender

Now young faces grow sad and old and hearts of fire grow cold
We swore blood brothers against the wind
I'm ready to grow young again
And hear your sisters voice calling us home across the open yards
Believin we could cut someplace of our own
With these drums and these guitars

We made a promise we swore wed always remember
No retreat, believe me, no surrender
Blood brothers in the stormy night with a vow to defend
No retreat, believe me, no surrender

Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim
The walls of my room are closing in
But its good to see your smiling face and to hear your voice again
We could sleep in the twilight by the river side
With a wide open country in our hearts
And these romantics dreams in our heads

We made a promise...

I was originally DesertDem but switched to No Surrender after the 2004 election when DU had a screen name change grace period.

16. Optimistic lyrics
It's so hard to keep my chin up, these days, I figured I'd choose an optimistic name to help. (Sang this song, from the musical Pippin, BTW, frequently before the '04 elections, when I was SURE Kerry was going to win...:eyes: )

Morning glow, morning glow
Starts to glimmer when you know
Winds of change are set to blow
And sweep this whole land through
Morning glow is long past due

Morning glow fill the earth
Come and shine for all you're worth
We'll be present at the birth
Of old faith looking new
Morning glow is long past due

Oh, morning glow, I'd like to help you grow
We should have started long ago

So, morning glow all day long
While we sing tomorrow's song
Never knew we could be so strong
But now it's very clear
Morning glow is almost here

Morning glow by your light
We can make the new day bright
And the phantoms of the night
Will fade into the past
Morning glow is here at last

23. Because it's rather paradoxical.
People have, at times, perceived me as trying to cause harm, but I'm quite harmless in terms of intent. I wish no one ill will and am a humanist in a genuine sense, but I don't particularly like being crossed either and have often had to protect myself.

Likewise, I "look" incredibly harmless in reality, but I'm pretty damned tough when I have to be.

'The Argument Sketch'
http://www.mindspring.com/~mfpatton/sketch.htm

(Walk down the corridor)
M: (Knock)
A: Come in.
M: Ah, Is this the right room for an argument?
A: I told you once.
M: No you haven't.
A: Yes I have.
M: When?
A: Just now.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: You didn't
A: I did!
M: You didn't!
A: I'm telling you I did!
M: You did not!!
A: Oh, I'm sorry, just one moment. Is this a five minute argument or the full half hour?
M: Oh, just the five minutes.
A: Ah, thank you. Anyway, I did.
M: You most certainly did not.
A: Look, let's get this thing clear; I quite definitely told you.
M: No you did not.
A: Yes I did.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: You didn't.
A: Did.
M: Oh look, this isn't an argument.
A: Yes it is.
M: No it isn't. It's just contradiction.
A: No it isn't.
M: It is!
A: It is not.
M: Look, you just contradicted me.
A: I did not.
M: Oh you did!!
A: No, no, no.
M: You did just then.
A: Nonsense!
M: Oh, this is futile!
A: No it isn't.
M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
A: Yes it is!
M: No it isn't!

A: Yes it is!
M: Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes.
(short pause)
A: No it isn't.
M: It is.
A: Not at all.
M: Now look.
A: (Rings bell) Good Morning.
M: What?
A: That's it. Good morning.
M: I was just getting interested.
A: Sorry, the five minutes is up.
M: That was never five minutes!
A: I'm afraid it was.
M: It wasn't.
Pause
A: I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to argue anymore.
M: What?!
A: If you want me to go on arguing, you'll have to pay for another five minutes.
M: Yes, but that was never five minutes, just now. Oh come on!
A: (Hums)
M: Look, this is ridiculous.
A: I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to argue unless you've paid!
M: Oh, all right.
(pays money)
A: Thank you.
short pause
M: Well?
A: Well what?
M: That wasn't really five minutes, just now.
A: I told you, I'm not allowed to argue unless you've paid.
M: I just paid!
A: No you didn't.
M: I DID!
A: No you didn't.
M: Look, I don't want to argue about that.
A: Well, you didn't pay.
M: Aha. If I didn't pay, why are you arguing? I Got you!
A: No you haven't.
M: Yes I have. If you're arguing, I must have paid.
A: Not necessarily. I could be arguing in my spare time.
M: Oh I've had enough of this.
A: No you haven't.
M: Oh Shut up.

This was probably the first Monty Python sketch I heard and I was crying, I was laughing so hard!!

37. Querelle
Is the name of the title character in a 1953 book by Jean Genet. He is a gay sailor, but also a thief and murderer. While I'm not a thieving murdering sailor, I am gay. The character always fascinated me. Fassbinder made a movie of the book starring Brad Davis. A favorite film of mine to this day.

And it's my favorite bad movie from the 1980's to watch.

I still need to get the DVD, though. :hide:

of an old radio show that was known as Vic and Sade.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vic_and_Sade

Fred Stembottom was a character that had a large role in the goings-on...but never actually appeared.

This is simply the funniest, most original show of any kind I have ever heard in my life and I have devoted a number of years to reviving it's memory (in my own small way)

But I digress..........

67. My significator in the Tarot
In many systems the major arcana of the Tarot are reserved for sysadmin names (or at least that is what I assume because there are a lot that won't let me us just theFool and do not have other users with that name) so I added _WA to indicate my state of residence (more personal than a number and less dorky than going with one of your standard screen name numbers like 69, 420, 101, etc)

Why theFool? The image shows a jester staring at the sun as he steps off the cliff. He is juggling and what he is juggling is typically dangerous (knives, torches, snakes, etc). At his heels is always a small dog that is barking in alarm warning the fool of his impending fall.

The card represents a person of boisterous, colorful personality who typically has his eyes focused on his dreams (the sun) instead of his feet which are typically in on the verge of that last disastrous step into oblivion. If that weren't bad enough, theFool's life is typically complex and deserving of its own attention (juggling dangerous things), yet he continues to stare into the sky, confident in his ability to do that which is at hand. The good news is that theFool, by his nature, is beloved by nearly everyone and always has those around him to call his attention to his feet when the cliff approaches (represented by the dog).

A friend of mine adept in the reading of tarot card's also described theFool as having "Infinite wisdom and zero common sense."

This is me, to a T, and has been my entire life. I even have a tattoo representation of the card on my upper right arm.

69. I love late 70s and early -to-mid-80s New Wave, Punk, and
alternative music, and I really started getting into it in 1981 during the summer after high school and as I was starting my freshman year in college. To this day, that's pretty much all I listen to.

I chose NewWaveChick1981 because it sounds better (and really is more descriptive) than AlternativeChick1981. :P

Since you asked why, I get to show this really long video and you cannot stop me.

Clearly at the time I could not think of a good acronym, so I thought this would be a clever riddle of sorts. gppm would have been more apropo though. It also is a trick I use to make unique usernames for the billions of on-line usernames the internet requires.

103. No, she wasn't big!
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 11:59 AM by calico1
The picture makes her look big. She only weighed about 12 lbs. She was down to 7 lbs. when she died. Her fur was very "poofy" which made her look bigger than she was. Plus the picture was an up close one.

Here is another picture of her:

She wasn't a barn cat. When I first moved in with my fiance she was an outdoor cat. She was around 11 at the time. I slowly coaxed her into coming indoors. And that is where she stayed mostly. She lived to be 17 1/2. She loved people, but hated cats. LOL.

104. At the time I stopped lurking and started posting, there was a lot of
anti-child crap on the board and I wanted to emphasize that there's no conglict between being a liberal and a devoted parent.

Thankfully there's less of that crap spouted around here these days, because anybody who dismisses a parent as a mere "breeder" is an asshole and it's probably best that thier genes die with them.
