1. Get those little peckerheads!!!!!!!
They can be annoying when they are working. If they are pecking on your house you might want to investigate the area. Woodpeckers go after bugs in wood, you might have termites or carpenter ants.

2. My neighbor had a flicker that would peck on his siding...
I thought it was someone using a pneumonic hammer at first.

3. Hey
Please. Don't hurt the sweet little innocent animals. They only do what they do out of instinct and survival. God loves them. And so should you.

Honest.

Thanks, Floogeldy.
We had one the other day, pecking at the top of one
of the palm trees.

They're really unusual in this area.
I thought it was very cool.

;-)

(I know, too many at once
might be annoying)

7. get house checked for termites
Edited on Wed Aug-23-06 09:06 PM by pitohui
we had red-headed woodpeckers, it took awhile before they finally gave up and realized the termites were no more but eventually they did move on to the more mundane task of chewing up the local telephone poles instead

very pretty birds and nothing a little spackle and paint didn't fix after they got bored w. our house but i imagine some species of woodpecker could be fairly destructive

8. Wow, beautiful photo.
How did you get it so perfectly removed from whatever background it had originally -- I would like to know how to do that. Thanks.

9. Wanna borrow my slingshot?
My cats haven't really done the trick. I get one every spring that goes to town on the chimney cap. At 6 a.m. For about four hours.

Wouldn'tcha think he'd have bent his beak or something by now?

10. We have one woodpecker that gets on to a metal light pole, and
IT'S LOUDER THAN A SON OF A BITCH in the front of our house!

Why he/she chooses a metal pole, I'll never know. There are dozens of wood poles around, but maybe it's treated wood.

My consolations...

And these were piliated woodpeckers, the great big ones. Dumber than a box of rocks.

One screwdriver: $3.00
Some cheap wire: 45 cents
One on/off switch: $7.00
One dead woodpecker: priceless

Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 08:24 PM by Radio_Lady
woodpeckers will try anything once -- I've heard them poking at our metal gutters. Aren't their heads able to take almost as much pressure as a jackhammer?

Edited on Wed Aug-23-06 10:25 PM by momophile
spraying them with water

spraying them with hotsauce

putting hot sauce on the wood siding that they peck

fake owl

real cat

running up and yelling

running up and pounding

nailing tin cans over the holes

threatening them with their life (they know that they are protected and that the threat is empty)

13. Hopefully not Ivory Billed Woodpeckers.
If you kill one of them, you're going to be in a heap of trouble.

16. I killed two in my life that attacked my sanity and home
Most fixated bird I know would not leave, picked my cedar built house to death. ONE shot....

Woody Woodpecker cartoons described the bird not by coincidence or humor

Damn now I am playing Bill Withers.

If you wouldn't even kill a single cricket then you certainly won't kill several woodpeckers.
